The University of Pittsburgh's Child Welfare Resource Center is seeking a Technical Editor to join the Statewide Quality Improvement Department: The Technical Editor will:

  • Be responsible for supporting the Office of Children, Youth and Families (OCYF) in the development of statewide reports, regulations and associated documents/forms, and Federal reports.
  • Support the development of statewide reports, regulations, and Federal reports by drafting language and editing existing content for format, flow, grammar and cohesion.
  • Work closely with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Be responsible for identifying and communicating changes needed to existing training and other internal resources and supporting the completion of those changes across the program.

Bachelor's degree in social work or closely related field required. Master's degree preferred. Candidate must have strong knowledge of child welfare. Minimum of two years' experience in child welfare and/or related human service field. Minimum of five years preferred. Excellent writing skills required. The candidate must also possess strong interpersonal skills, customer service skills, collaboration skills, and facilitation skills. A valid driver's license is required. Experience working with ethnically and culturally diverse populations preferred. A commitment to achieving equity and inclusion in the child welfare system is a must.

The Child Welfare Resource Center operates in a hybrid work approach where work can be completed remotely, in the Mechanicsburg office, and in the field as necessary and appropriate. Time for this position is estimated as 90% remote work, 5% in the Mechanicsburg office, and 5% in the field. Typical travel required will be statewide throughout the Commonwealth. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required as a condition of employment. Job Summary
Performs a variety of editorial duties (e.g., laying out, indexing, proofreading, and revising content of written materials) in preparation for final publication for multiple complex projects adhering to style, editorial policy, and publishing requirements. Prepares, rewrites, and edits copy for multiple moderately complex projects for internal and external publication. Oversees publication production and assists with prospective manuscript work. Identifies subjects, interviews sources, and writes articles.

Essential Functions
Must be able to operate computers and other office equipment; communicate effectively with management contacts as well as internal and external contacts; perform under pressure of numerous deadlines; perform multiple job tasks and projects. A valid driver's license or the ability to travel to perform the essential functions is required.

Physical Effort

Typical field travel required will be statewide throughout the Commonwealth on an infrequent basis, lift up to 30 pounds, set up and prepare audiovisual equipment for meetings and presentations.
