Position Criteria:
Valid Iowa Teaching license
K-8 Music
OR
5-12 Music endorsement
Experience working with with middle school level children preferred
Demonstrate aptitude for performing tasks listed
Must exhibit ethical practices and be a role model to students
Performance Criteria:
Flexible, highly motivated, positive and enthusiastic about working with children
Assist and/or plan schedules and performances for middle school instrumental events for the school year (Concert Band, Jazz Band, Honor Band, Solo/Ensemble Contest, etc.)
Maintain availability before and after school for individual and section assistance and band lessons.
Proven experience in differentiated instruction in the music classroom
Utilize organizational and communication skills.
Create and maintain healthy relationships with students and staff.
Demonstrate flexibility, high levels of motivation and enthusiasm when working with middle and high school learners.
Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and be able to apply that understanding to a team situation.
Understand and apply in professional practice the Waukee Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students.
Understand and experience in using multiple teaching methods: co‑teaching, collaborating, whole/small group and individualized instruction.
Commit to differentiating instruction for learners.
Commit to meeting the needs of diverse learners, including all special populations.
Commit to ongoing professional growth and development as described in the Iowa Professional Development Standards and support of the Iowa Teaching Standards as the foundation from which to build that ongoing growth plan.
Demonstrate an understanding of and ability to implement the MTSS process.
Utilize developmentally appropriate assessments for learning.
Articulate oral and written communications.
Maintain accurate standards based grades and provide measurable and adequate feedback on student work.
Extra Duty Criteria:
Serve as co‑director for one co‑curricular jazz ensemble
Create calendar, reserve facilities for rehearsals and performances, and prepare students for the year’s Band events to include:
Curricular concerts
Jazz band rehearsals
Participation in jazz festivals
When applicable, solo/ensemble festival
When applicable, auditions for honor bands
Coordinate bus/transportation needs
Assist with set up and clean up after band events
Communicate with guardians, community, staff, administration, and other stakeholders regarding schedules, competitions, transportation, etc.
Collaborate with facility support staff as needed including Operations and Performing Arts Center Management
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the District
