The Account Executive will lead the management, retention, and strategic growth of an assigned portfolio of employee benefits clients. This role serves as the primary relationship owner, providing consultative guidance, overseeing service delivery, and identifying opportunities to expand solutions that align with client objectives. The position requires a balance of technical expertise, client advocacy, and leadership of internal resources to ensure a high-quality client experience.
Responsibilities Manage and retain a defined book of business, ensuring client satisfaction and long-term partnership. Serve as the primary strategic advisor to clients on benefits programs, market trends, and plan optimization. Identify cross-sell and up-sell opportunities aligned to client needs and organizational capabilities. Lead renewal strategy, including negotiation and advocacy with carrier and vendor partners. Resolve complex or escalated service matters and ensure timely resolution. Direct and coordinate internal service teams to deliver consistent, high-quality support. Participate in new business pursuits, including finalist presentations and proposal development. Review contracts, plan documents, and summaries for accuracy and compliance. Oversee client compliance considerations and assist with governance-related needs. Prepare benchmarking analyses, reporting, and client-facing presentations. Maintain thorough documentation of client and carrier interactions. Stay current on industry developments through continuing education and professional engagement. Mentor junior team members and contribute to team development initiatives.
Requirements 7+ years of experience in employee benefits, insurance consulting, human resources, or a related field. Active Life, Accident & Health license (or ability to obtain). Demonstrated success managing client relationships and driving retention. Strong understanding of group benefits strategy, funding arrangements, and market dynamics. Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills. Proven ability to lead accounts independently while collaborating across teams. High attention to detail with strong organizational and prioritization abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business technologies. Financial acumen and experience analyzing plan performance preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent professional experience considered. Professional designations and industry involvement are a plus.
Benefits/Pay Target compensation range: $140,000 – $170,000 annually, depending on experience, scope, and location.
