Air & Ocean Import Customs Entry Writer

Location: Elk Grove Village (Chicago area) System: NetCHB by Descartes Systems Group In Office work – 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (1 hour lunch) 10K bonus for gaining LCB at the company

Position Summary We are looking for a detail-driven Air & Ocean Import Customs Entry Writer to manage the accurate and timely preparation of U.S. customs entries for international shipments. This role is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, coordinating with internal operations and clients, and maintaining precise data within NetCHB.

Key Responsibilities Customs Entry Processing Prepare and transmit customs entries for air and ocean imports Review commercial invoices, packing lists, and shipping documents for accuracy and compliance Classify goods using HTSUS and determine applicable duties, taxes, and fees Ensure timely clearance to avoid storage, demurrage, or exam delays

Regulatory Compliance Maintain compliance with CBP regulations and partner government agencies (PGA) requirements Monitor and manage holds, exams, and requests for information Maintain accurate records in accordance with recordkeeping regulations

Coordination & Communication Work closely with import coordinators, freight forwarders, and customers to gather required documentation Provide shipment status updates and resolve clearance issues promptly Liaise with CBP, carriers, and exam sites as needed

Systems & Reporting Enter and manage entry data, notes, and milestones in NetCHB Audit files for accuracy prior to transmission Support post-entry processes including PSCs, protests, and duty reconciliation support

Qualifications 2+ years of customs entry writing experience for air and ocean imports Working knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and import documentation Experience using NetCHB (or similar customs brokerage software) Strong HTS classification skills and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple entries in a deadline-driven environment Strong written and verbal communication skills Experience with PGA filings (FDA, USDA, EPA, etc.)
