Job Description The System Finance Director provides system-level leadership for highly specialized healthcare accounting functions, with primary responsibility for Accounts Receivable / Net Revenue Analytics and Government Reimbursement. This role oversees complex, high-risk financial estimates central to healthcare revenue recognition and partners closely with senior finance leadership, auditors, and operational stakeholders to ensure accuracy, compliance, and strategic insight.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic and operational leadership for net revenue estimation, A/R valuation, and government reimbursement functions within the Controller organization
Oversee managers responsible for:
Contractual and bad debt allowance methodologies in accordance with GAAP
Net revenue modeling, hindsight lookback analysis, and variance analysis
Government reimbursement and cost reporting, including third-party payer dynamics
Ensure consistency, rigor, and integrity of methodologies supporting some of the largest and highest-risk financial estimates on the balance sheet
Partner with internal and external auditors related to revenue recognition, reimbursement, and compliance activities
Present and explain complex financial estimates, trends, and variances to senior finance and system leadership, including the CFO
Lead continuous improvement efforts across net revenue and reimbursement processes, tools, and reporting
Provide guidance related to net revenue and reimbursement considerations for acquisitions, divestitures, and organizational changes
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Progressive healthcare accounting or finance experience, with direct exposure to:
Net revenue estimation and A/R valuation
Government reimbursement and cost reporting
Demonstrated experience leading specialized teams within a complex or matrixed organization
Strong working knowledge of GAAP-based healthcare revenue recognition
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with net revenue or reimbursement modeling tools (e.g., Crowe/Kodiak RCA or similar platforms)
Public accounting background with healthcare audit or cost report consulting experience
CPA designation (preferred, not required)
Ability to operate comfortably with system-level visibility and executive audiences
Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical leaders
Scope Clarifications This role is not focused on Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) or operational revenue cycle management. Candidates whose experience is primarily FP&A or revenue cycle–focused may not find this role aligned with their background.
Remote Work Considerations
This position is fully remote, supporting teams distributed across multiple states, however, candidates must reside in states where Essentia is authorized to employ.
We cannot employ candidates residing in California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Massachusetts, New York, or New Jersey.
Preference may be given to candidates located within our existing service regions to ensure alignment with Essentia’s operations and time zones.
