Clarkston, Sterling Heights or Novi
POSITION SUMMARY AtomTech is seeking a motivated and hands‑on Junior‑Level Controls Designer to design and document automation systems for the manufacturing environment with an emphasis on the automotive industry. This position will report directly to the Engineering Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Good understanding of other project disciplines (i.e. Fluid Power, Mechanical Design)
Basic knowledge of PLC architecture including discrete and remote I/O
Basic knowledge of communication networks (Ethernet IP, IOLink, ProfiNET, Profibus)
Basic knowledge of AutoCAD software with EPlan preferred
Familiar with control reliable circuits and Safety PLC Systems and an understanding of the applicable safety standards with respect to automated equipment
Associate Degree or Valid Training Certificate
Reliable transportation
Willingness and ability to travel as required
Flexible schedule availability (including overtime and weekends as needed)
Experience working in a fast‑paced environment
Positive attitude and strong work ethic
Eagerness to learn and develop new technical skills
Bonus Qualifications (Preferred but Not Required)
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, disciplined approach to work
Ability to work well as a member of a team
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent judgment and strong problem‑solving skills, including the ability to understand the financial impact of relevant options
High energy and the flexibility to perform under short time constraints to meet deadlines
Effective working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Work Authorization Requirement Candidates must belegally authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis without the need for current or future employer sponsorship.
REQUIRED RESPONSIBILITIES
Design Automated PLC control systems using AutoCAD and EPlan incorporating equipment from manufacturers such as Allen Bradley, Siemens and Omron
Provide Bill of Materials based on system design
Assist with floor level support during build with respect to design changes
Load calculations on power distribution panels, control power supplies as well as resistance and mig weld systems
Coordinate with other disciplines to streamline delivery
General Duties
Assist with feedback and project improvements
Follow all company safety policies and procedures
Maintain clean and organized workspaces on job sites and in‑house
Communication & Collaboration (Critical)
Communicate effectively with internal teams and customers
Provide clear updates regarding job status, delays or technical concerns
Participate in team meetings and training sessions
Maintain professionalism in all customer‑facing interactions
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, occasional handling of loads up to 100 lbs
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work on equipment for extended periods
Comfortable working in warehouse, manufacturing and industrial environments with noise, dust, temperature changes and uneven surfaces
Full manual dexterity for tool and equipment operation; ability to work in tight or elevated spaces
