Job Summary
The Sr. Human Resources Labor Relations Business Partner will be a key contributor to General Motors' human resources and labor relations strategy, focusing on fostering positive union relations, ensuring fair and consistent application of policy and labor agreements, identifying and developing world‑class talent, and proactively addressing workplace issues. This role requires a seasoned professional capable of navigating complex labor environments and driving effective solutions.
Job Responsibilities
Lead and participate in contract negotiations with multiple local unions, ensuring outcomes align with company objectives and legal requirements.
Manage and administer the grievance process, conducting thorough investigations, representing the company in formal hearings, and pursuing timely resolutions.
Oversee the discipline and attendance process for union employees, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements and company policies, and addressing related disciplinary actions.
Conduct comprehensive workplace investigations into employee grievances, disciplinary matters, and other sensitive issues, ensuring objectivity, confidentiality, and adherence to legal and contractual obligations.
Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with union representatives, promoting open communication and a constructive labor environment.
Provide expert guidance and support to management on HR and labor relations issues, including policy, contract interpretation, disciplinary actions, and compliance with legal.
Collaborate with the recruiting team to ensure recruitment strategies and practices identify and retain world‑class talent.
Analyze HR and LR data and trends to identify potential issues and recommend proactive solutions.
Develop and deliver training programs for managers and supervisors.
Support local and national projects to within HRLR and cross‑functionally.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of 7‑10 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, with a strong focus on Labor Relations within a large, unionized manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated expertise in contract negotiations, including preparation, strategy development, and successful execution.
In‑depth knowledge and practical experience with the grievance procedural process, including arbitration and mediation.
Proven ability to effectively manage attendance processes within a unionized setting.
Solid experience in conducting thorough and impartial workplace investigations.
Strong understanding of union relations and best practices for fostering positive labor‑management partnerships.
Familiarity with recruiting practices.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus at all levels.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
Minimal travel required.
