Physical Therapist Assistant

Location: Lanham, MD

Start Date: 02-23-2026

End Date: 05-25-2026

Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Sunday-Saturday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Day shift)

Hours per Week: 35

Candidate Pay Rate: $42 per hour

 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Assist the physical therapist in implementing individualized treatment plans that restore mobility and independence
  • Deliver hands-on therapeutic interventions and therapeutic exercise safely and effectively
  • Monitor and document patient progress, communicating changes and outcomes to the care team
  • Educate patients and families on home exercise programs and safe mobility techniques
  • Maintain equipment, therapy areas, and infection-control standards to ensure a safe environment
  • Coordinate with nurses, physicians, and other clinicians to support continuity of care
  • Advocate for patients’ functional goals and help tailor interventions to their daily lives

Qualifications

  • Graduated from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
  • Licensed or eligible for PTA licensure in Maryland (state licensure required prior to practice)
  • Current BLS/CPR certification
  • Demonstrated clinical experience working with adult and/or geriatric populations preferred
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary setting
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet facility onboarding requirements

Education

  • Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
  • Completion of all state-required PTA licensure/certification steps

Knowledge & Skills

  • Hands-on experience with therapeutic exercise, gait training, transfers, and adaptive equipment
  • Familiarity with treatment modalities commonly used in outpatient and post-acute settings
  • Solid documentation skills and comfort using electronic medical records
  • Good clinical reasoning to modify interventions and ensure patient safety
  • Ability to educate patients and caregivers in plain, encouraging language
  • Strong teamwork, time management, and infection-control practices
