This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the JBSA Lackland Outdoor Recreation.

This is a flexible position with guaranteed 00 hours per week. You may be scheduled up to 40 hours per week. Employees appointed to a flexible category position are not eligible for benefits.

Duties Leads three or more lifeguards in the performance of lifeguard and related swimming facility duties. Distributes and balances workload in accordance with established directives. Ensures timely accomplishment of work assignments. Maintains awareness of status and progress and makes day-to-day adjustments based on established priorities. Maintains records of work accomplishment as required by program directives/procedures. Instructs lower graded lifeguards in specific tasks, procedures, and techniques, makes available written instructions, material, and supplies. Gives on-the-job training to new employees. Maintains a current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, and directives, and obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems. Checks on work in progress and reviews completed work to see that supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. Refers problems or matters not covered by instruction to supervisor. Reports to supervisor on employee performance, progress, and training needs and on disciplinary problems. Observes the condition and behavior of swimmers to ascertain any potential problems. Fosters good relationships with patrons. Maintains order and enforces established rules of safety and behavior. Rescues and resuscitates individuals in danger of drowning and renders first aid to injuries. Cleans and maintains the swimming facility to include assigned areas (e.g., bathrooms, decks, locker rooms, showers, pool, etc.) according to established schedules and instructions. Checks pool water chemistry according to established schedules and instructions and documents/reports findings. Opens and inspects facilities at the beginning of the day and closes and secures facilities at the end of the day. Reports equipment/facilities problems to appropriate personnel. Verifies that customers are authorized to use facility by checking appropriate identification. Collects admission fees, makes change, completes appropriate administrative documents and turns in daily cashier reports. Conducts swimming lessons following prescribed lesson plan. Consults with senior swimming instructor concerning lessons, lesson plans, and any problems. May be required to work other than normal duty hours which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Work is performed indoors and outdoors and involves long periods of exposure to summer sun and chlorinated water.

Requirements

This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.

This position requires a pre-employment screening for swimming ability, rescue skills, and CPR skills.

The applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or a Legal U.S. Resident for a minimum of 3 years and must reside in/around the area as noted in the Job Opportunity Announcement.

This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

This position has physical requirements which require the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical.

Must be able to work rotating shifts.
