The Composite Design Engineer will provide extended expertise in developing, designing, and testing a wide range of aerospace composites and mechanical products to meet stringent requirements and specifications for Aerospace and Defense applications. The role involves performing mechanical development and integration assignments with a focus on innovation and precision.
Responsibilities
Provide extended expertise in the design, development, and testing of mechanical components. Participate in engineering activities to define product requirements, create designs, and perform simulation testing and validation of final hardware components. Perform mechanical component development and integration using Computer-Aided-Design concepts in CATIA CAD software. Work as part of the Mechanical Engineering Team to meet high levels of engineering standards per design specifications. Use existing procedures to solve a range of problems and analyze information and standard practices to make judgments. Solve a variety of mechanical engineering issues and improve existing designs. Improve and implement composite manufacturing processes. Perform value analysis during the product design phase while optimizing product development costs. Other responsibilities as assigned.
Essential Skills
Excellent ability to apply a systematic and analytical approach to problem solving. Proficient with CAD and 3D modeling. Advanced knowledge and ability to apply core concepts of engineering including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis, and electricity. Ability to explain a range of complex technical information. Prior experience with CATIA is required. Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion. Experience with composite design and manufacturing processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's in Engineering or related field (open to Associate's Degree with adequate experience to offset a bachelor's education). 3+ years of Mechanical Component Design experience - CATIA 3D modeling. Experience with BOM management. Experience with Composite material, Design, CATIA V5, Modeling, Aerospace, Engineering, and New product development. Aerospace experience is a nice to have. Composite component experience is a nice to have.
Work Environment
The position requires onsite work with some flexibility available if needed based on requirements. The work setting is primarily in an office environment, but will include occasional visits to the manufacturing floor to ensure designs are being manufactured as expected and assist in the testing phase. The company comprises 100 employees.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $45.67/hr.
