Macmillan Children's Publishing Group is looking for a Junior Designer to support the 1-color team and conceive creative and engaging book designs for our young adult, middle grade, non-fiction and graphic novel titles.

What you'll do

Design and set up mechanicals/effects plates for jackets, covers, and interiors

Create engaging cover and interior designs through composition, typography, illustration, and photography

Route materials following department procedures and guidelines

Typeset corrections to jackets, covers, and interiors throughout routing process

Research and suggest illustrators, photographers, and stock images for projects

Articulate concepts with polished, convincing sketch comps

Collaborate closely with editorial team and other internal departments

Deliver notes to and handle correspondence with illustrators

Follow and help maintain on-time schedules

Respond to queries and liaise with other departments on behalf of the 1-color team as requested

What skills you'll bring

Adobe Creative Suite, Google Suite, Mac Platform

Expert in color theory and design fundamentals

Exceptional portfolio displaying strong typographic skills

Knowledge of and an interest in the book publishing industry

An ability to collaborate and compromise with colleagues

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Team player who is motivated to learn from colleagues

A love of reading

Ideal Experience/Education

At least 1 - 3 years bookmaking experience

Bachelor's or master's degree in graphic design or other related field OR equivalent work experience.

Salary range for this role is $50K.
