
Overview
ALO is seeking a detail-driven Footwear Product Developer to support the growth and elevation of our footwear business. This role manages the end-to-end development process—from concept through commercialization—ensuring precision, craftsmanship, and on-time execution. The ideal candidate brings a strong footwear development background in the footwear industry with a passion for premium materials, refined construction, and fit. Experience developing women’s footwear and conducting detailed fit evaluations is highly valued, while the role supports footwear across all categories. Responsibilities
Manage the product development process and calendar from concept to commercialization.
Partner with Design to develop product using high-quality materials including leather, suede, textiles, and specialty trims that align with Alo’s premium aesthetic.
Develop footwear styles and recommend options to meet pricing targets, as well as assure product performance integrity through product testing.
Own and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), costing, and development timelines within PLM
Manage sample tracking and seasonal development status reporting to ensure on-time execution
Collaborate with Product Integrity to ensure testing standards are being met for buy ready status.
Collaborate cross-functionally to maintain data accuracy and support on-time buy approvals
Execute development of product according to the seasonal critical dates that lead to on–time delivery of samples and buy readiness.
Communicate all technical specs to footwear vendors.
Prepare and maintain weekly development reports on cost, margin, timelines, sample status, and buy readiness for cross-functional teams and leadership
Conduct and lead fit sessions and wear testing for each new style, with particular attention to women’s-specific fit, comfort, and performance
Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in footwear development, ideally within premium or luxury categories
Strong understanding of footwear construction, materials, and testing processes
Experience working with premium materials such as leather, suede, specialty textiles, and trims
Experience conducting fit sessions and wear testing; background in women’s footwear development and last evaluation is highly valued
AA or BA in Fashion Design, Product Development, Footwear Design, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Merchandising, or equivalent experience
Prior footwear PLM experience required
Ability to work independently and directly with overseas vendors
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed
The base salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000 per year which represents the current range for the base salary for this exempt position. Please note that actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. As such, on occasion and when applicable, there is the possibility that the final, agreed-upon base salary may be outside of the upper end of the range. Please also note the range listed is just one component of the company’s total rewards package for exempt employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, long term incentives, a PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
