Aloha! One of Hawaii's major energy companies is seeking a Technical Writer to join their team. In this position, he/she will be supporting various pole infrastructure teams and assist with creating SOPs, job aids, and some project management.

Knowledge Requirements • Working knowledge of budgeting, finance, business, and project management usually acquired through college level courses or related experience.

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field; or a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or another technical discipline combined with substantial professional writing and documentation experience.

• Thorough working knowledge of regulatory or compliance principles and practice, particularly as it relates to the PUC (or other regulated entities in other states), FCC (or other Federal agencies), and/or Safety (OSHA. NESC).

• Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications, such as spreadsheets, word processing, PowerPoint, Sharepoint, etc.

Knowledge Preferred • Master’s degree in Public Policy, Business Process Management, or similar discipline, or a Juris Doctor, with strong demonstrated experience in technical writing, policy drafting, or editorial work.

• Utility industry operations knowledge—familiarity with electrical or gas transmission/distribution, field operations, system control, construction/maintenance practices, or regulatory compliance requirements.

• Project Management Professional or equivalent certification

• Working knowledge of continuous improvement frameworks, such as Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or similar process-optimization methodologies.

Experience Requirements • Minimum 5 years’ experience analyzing regulatory requirements and preparing written summaries, analysis, or responses, or technical writing experience, preferably in utilities, energy, infrastructure, engineering, or industrial operations.

• Minimum 3 years’ experience of related business experience, preferably in such occupational areas as engineering, accounting, budget and planning, contracts, regulatory affairs, or finance.

• Writing/editing experience in a professional writing position highly desired.

• Experience developing and standardizing processes and procedures highly desired.

Experience Preferred • 3-5 years’ experience negotiating and preparing contracts and agreements.

• 3-5 years’ experience working with and understanding administrative law as the Hawaii PUC, FCC, or similar state or Federal regulated agencies.

Work Environment On-site in Honolulu, HI but position has intention of becoming hybrid thereafter.

Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Honolulu, HI.

Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $42.00/hr.
