Position Description The Court Clerk performs a variety of clerical duties and provides administrative support to the Harris County Justice of the Peace and Justice Court.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Receive and process citations, complaints, petitions, affidavits, applications, or information instituting a cause of action and enter information in the court's case management software. Perform extensive data entry and scanning. Monitor cases, set cases for the appropriate dockets, and notify parties of upcoming court dates. Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of Odyssey Case Management System functionality. Review and interpret orders signed by the judge to determine next actions. Serve as a point of contact with defendants, plaintiffs, attorneys, court personnel, law enforcement, interested parties, and the general public regarding the status, disposition, and pending actions of cases. Assist the public in person, by phone, or by email regarding the status, disposition, or pending actions on court cases. Prepares summons, warrants, and issue civil citations, eviction citations, subpoenas, and writs. Perform cashier duties, and responsible for balancing end of day totals. Perform all other job-related duties as assigned by the judge and department supervisors. The ability to work well with other staff members and the public. Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent Minimum of two (2) years of clerical or customer service work experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Basic computer skills including proficiency in the use of MS Office software, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Detail oriented and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be punctual, dependable and have the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The ability to work well with other staff members and the public. Must demonstrate professionalism and maintain confidentiality when required. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively. Must be able to work overtime without prior notification including correcting problems after normal business hours. No prior felony conviction. Physical Requirements:

This position may at times require bending, stooping, lifting up to twenty (20) pounds, frequent walking, standing and sitting.
