Position Description POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Manager, Total Rewards, the Compensation & Benefits Specialist supports the delivery and governance of compensation and benefits programs across St. Joseph’s Health System. The role provides analytical, technical, and administrative expertise, including advanced data reporting, audits, job evaluations, and system updates to ensure alignment with the organization’s total rewards philosophy.

The Specialist plays a key control function in position management, salary administration, and HRIS data integrity while supporting wage increases, benefit premium adjustments, pension administration, and disability management. Working collaboratively with HR, Payroll, consultants, and benefit carriers, the incumbent resolves compensation issues, conducts costings, and implements program changes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, and/or relevant field required

Certification or working towards CHRP, CHRL, CEBS, CCP preferred

Membership with Human Resource Professional Association (HRPA) preferred

Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in compensation, benefits/total rewards administration for a large, complex, union / non-union environment with demonstrated knowledge applying analytical methodology

Experience working in a unionized, public sector environment is preferred

Advanced Excel skills, for spreadsheet design and manipulation. Demonstrated knowledge and application of writing and using data analysis formulas in Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot tables, IF statements etc.)

Strong critical thinking and investigative skills to undertake root cause analysis of compensation issues. Ability to solve complex problems including data assimilation from multiple sources, e.g., market information, internal employee data, historical information and policy application in order to explain situations and develop logical defensible solutions

Familiarity using various HRIS systems to navigate extract data, writes report queries etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support the governance and administration of compensation and benefits programs in alignment with Total Rewards policies

Conduct data analysis, reporting, and regular audits to ensure compensation and HRIS data integrity

Manage position control, salary account administration, and coding within HRIS and systems

Implement wage increases, compensation initiatives, and benefit premium adjustments, including mass system updates

Perform job evaluations to ensure roles align with the organization’s compensation philosophy

Complete compensation rate assessments, previous experience reviews, and cost analyses

Support pension administration and long-term disability case management

Update benefit summaries and issue required notices related to rate or program changes
