Dorchester County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team as the Director of HealthCare Services.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, this position is responsible for supervising nursing personnel, advising administrators and interdisciplinary staff, and ensuring that nursing care is delivered in accordance with accepted standards of practice. The role also encompasses responsibilities as the Employee Health Nurse.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must possess the ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to move intermittently throughout the workday; sitting, standing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing and lifting with frequent repetitive motions; possible physical interventions with individuals who are upset and combative; is subject to lifting and carrying adult consumers.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Ability to relate to and work with developmentally disabled individuals; is involved with personnel, visitors, and individuals under all conditions and circumstances; ability to communicate effectively with individuals served, families, co-workers, and visitors; is willing to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary; is willing to work in other positions as needed; maintains a liaison with individuals served, their families, support departments and other pertinent agencies; is subject to working in and out of doors, and may be subject to various temperature and weather conditions; is subject to working in loud environments and around equipment that may potentially cause bodily harm; may be subject to working with hazardous equipment or chemicals.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (including but not limited to)
Plan, organize, implement, evaluate, and delegate nursing care within assigned areas.
Serve as nursing advisor to administrators and interdisciplinary staff.
Collaborate with administrative team members to ensure quality care.
Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines, infection control standards, and agency policies.
Provide leadership, coaching, and evaluation of nursing staff.
Maintain nursing schedules and ensure 24-hour coverage for consumer needs.
Participate in surveys, audits, and corrective action planning.
Act as liaison between nursing staff, HR, and other disciplines.
Provide training and orientation on infection control and healthcare awareness.
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work independently and make decisions; must possess excellent writing and communication skills, ability to deal tactfully with others and treat the consumers with dignity and respect. Strong knowledge of infection control, immunizations, and electronic medical record documentation. Ability to educate, support, and lead nursing staff.
Education Completion of an accredited school of Practical Nursing; current RN license in good standing.
Experience minimum of one (1) year experience with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities
Certificate/License South Carolina RN license from the SC Board of Nursing – active, CPR certification required.
Other Must hold a valid driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record and a satisfactory SLED report.
Salary (salary will be commensurate with experience)
