Job Summary
The Office of Residence Life seeks an Assistant Director, Student Development & Fraternity/Sorority Housing to join their fun, motivated, mission-driven, and service-oriented team! To support and enhance the mission of the Office of Residence Life (RLO), the Assistant Director is responsible for fostering an engaging and inclusive residential environment that supports student learning, belonging, and leadership. This position directly supervises approximately eight (8) Resident Assistants (RA) and oversees a residential area of approximately 194 residents. This position also oversees the staff development and training aspects for student staff, and the recruitment of RAs and Senior RAs. In addition, this position serves as a key partner to the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life. This is a live‑on role and will require evening/weekend work (event attendance) and rotating on‑call responsibilities. Primary Responsibilities
Staff Recruitment and Training
Serve as the departmental lead for all student staff recruitment and selection processes, including Resident Assistants, Senior Resident Assistants, and summer student positions Design, implement, and assess comprehensive training programs for undergraduate and graduate staff, including Fall, Spring, and Summer trainings Collaborate with campus partners to deliver holistic, inclusive training experiences that integrate mental health, identity development, and leadership competencies Create staff development activities, and on‑going professional development for Resident Assistants Maintain training materials, online modules, and assessment tools
Fraternity/Sorority Housing Oversight
Provide administrative and operational support for fraternity and sorority residential facilities Serve as the primary RLO liaison to the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life, chapter advisors, and housing corporations Support compliance with housing agreements, facility safety inspections, and occupancy management Collaborate with Facilities, Campus Safety, and F/S House Corporation representatives to ensure a safe and well‑maintained environment Develop and maintain community development expectations aligned with the values of both RLO and Fraternity & Sorority Life
Supervision & Community Development
Supervise eight (8) Resident Assistants Provide consistent coaching, feedback, and professional development for Resident Assistants Develop meaningful working relationships with Resident Assistants through one‑on‑ones and staff meetings Facilitate training sessions and staff development activities for Resident Assistants Support the implementation of the Residential Curriculum across assigned communities Advise student leadership groups as needed (e.g., Hall Council, community programming committees) Promote student learning through initiatives that enhance belonging, wellness, and intercultural engagement
Conduct and Crisis Management
Serve in the on‑call rotation supporting approximately 1,800 residential students Respond to crises, behavioral concerns, and emergency situations with professionalism and empathy Understand and uphold the Student Code of Conduct and the Guide to Residence Hall Living
Administrative and Departmental Responsibilities
Participate in department‑wide processes including hall openings and closings, health and safety inspections, damage billing, and housing selection Manage budgets related to training, recruitment, and fraternity/sorority housing programs Maintain accurate data, reports, and assessment outcomes for assigned functional areas Attend departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings, and serve on committees as assigned Demonstrate a commitment to Rollins College's institutional goals
Professional Development
Develop annual professional goals in collaboration with supervisor Stay informed of emerging trends and best practices in student affairs, housing operations, and fraternity/sorority life Participate in state, regional, and national professional organizations (e.g., NASPA, ACPA, ACUHO‑I, NAFSA, AFLV)
Minimum Qualifications & Education
Master’s degree in student personnel, educational leadership, counseling, or a related field Minimum of one year of full‑time professional experience in residential life, specialty housing or fraternity/sorority housing management Demonstrated skills in the following areas: staff supervision; training and leadership; selection and recruitment processes; crisis intervention and management; conflict resolution; programming; residence hall administration; and assessment Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge about and/or experience in a small, residential, liberal arts college Live‑in residential experience as a Graduate Assistant or Professional Staff Knowledge of residential curriculum design, assessment, and student engagement theory Experience working through crisis intervention and management, and conflict resolution Familiarity with housing information systems (i.e., Roompact, The Housing Director) Work Environment
Campus‑based, front‑facing customer service position, and working in an office environment Work requires visual strain and the use of a computer Fast‑paced team environment requiring an ability to multitask Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends Must be able to traverse stairs and travel between multiple buildings as part of duties Instructions to Applicants
