Job Description This technical and responsible role focuses on planning, scheduling, marketing and coordinating specific programs at designated recreational facilities. The work involves supervising and organizing activities for participants of varying ages, under the general supervision of a Recreation Supervisor.

This position is under the direction of Parks and Recreation. Working special events on holidays, nights, and weekends is required.

Essential Job Duties

Plan, coordinate, and supervise recreational activities, games, programs, field trips, events, and sporting activities for age groups ranging from pre‑school to senior citizens.

Supervise a specified group of participants (adults and children) indoors and outdoors, including those with special needs.

Maintain a safe environment, complete injury/incident reports as required.

Conduct crisis response drills, fire drills, and emergency preparedness procedures.

Assist with routine facility maintenance.

Drive the recreation van on required field trips.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Foster positive employee relations and morale on a city‑wide basis.

On‑Call Recreation Leader Responsibilities

Assist in planning, organizing, and coordinating comprehensive recreational programs on an as‑needed basis.

Participate in or supervise leisure activities for all ages.

Minimum Qualifications

High School graduation or acceptable equivalency diploma, at least 18 years of age at time of application.

Six (6) months of verifiable experience in childcare, recreation programming, customer service, or a related field.

Valid State of Florida Driver's License with a good driving record.

CPR, AED, and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.

Child Development Accreditation preferred.

Knowledge of Logic Pro 10 for positions assigned to the 505 Teen Center Recording Studio.

Additional Requirements for Out‑of‑School Programs

Current certification in a 45‑hour childcare license and all other certifications required by city, county, and state for after‑school programs; CDL license is a plus.

Pass scheduled physical exams in compliance with Florida Department of Health.

High School Student Employees – 505 Teen Center

In high school, at least 16 years old at time of application.

Six (6) months of verifiable volunteer or paid experience in childcare, recreation programming, or a related field.

Valid State of Florida Driver's License or Learner's Permit.

CPR, AED, and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.

Knowledge of the fundamentals of recreation, types of facilities and materials required to perform essential functions, excellent customer service skills, MS Office proficiency, and the City’s policies and procedures. Ability to safely operate a recreational van, analyze special activities to meet group needs, work independently while adhering to policies, and maintain effective relationships with children, parents, employees, and the public. Proficient communication in oral and written form, timely prioritization of routine, specialized, and complex assignments, adaptability in an evolving environment, punctuality, and regular attendance are essential.

All employees are expected to respond positively to supervision, maintain a professional appearance, report to work promptly, notify supervisors of absences, adhere to time‑off policies, demonstrate politeness and courtesy to the public, operate equipment according to manufacturer specifications, and respect cultural, religious, and gender differences.

Supplemental Information Physical Demands/Work Environment The physical demands include frequent sitting and talking or hearing, using hands to handle objects or tools, occasional walking, standing, and lifting/moving up to 25 lbs. The environment includes indoor and occasional outdoor work. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
