
The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for managing an assigned sales territory by developing new business and expanding existing accounts, with a strong focus on Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs. This role requires building and maintaining key customer relationships, collaborating with internal teams to ensure customer satisfaction and operational efficiency, and representing the company at trade shows, vendor meetings, and industry events.
Essential Functions Sales & Business Development
Manage and grow an assigned sales territory by developing new business and expanding existing accounts, with a strong focus on Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs.
Identify and target accounts for strategic growth while promoting key product lines and solutions.
Develop and execute sales strategies to meet or exceed revenue and profitability goals.
Account Management & Customer Relations
Build and maintain strong customer relationships through regular on-site visits, performance reviews, and proactive issue resolution.
Collaborate with branch management, inside sales, purchasing, and operations to ensure customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
Provide technical sales support, including product selection, pricing guidance, and application recommendations.
Maintain and strengthen relationships with vendors and suppliers to support customer needs.
Participate in joint sales calls and stay current on vendor products, services, and promotions.
Market Presence & Brand Representation
Represent the company at trade shows, vendor meetings, and industry events.
Support customer and internal product knowledge needs through effective communication and product expertise.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Proven track record in outside sales, preferably within industrial distribution, fasteners, or related industries.
Strong understanding of Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs.
Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with CRM/ERP systems (LEADsmart and Prophet 21 preferred).
Education and Experience
College degree or equivalent work experience in business, sales, or a related field.
Experience in the greater Dallas/Fort Worth market and surrounding territory.
Knowledge of fasteners, MRO products, and technical sales.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
This job requires frequent travel within the assigned territory to customer locations, trade shows, and vendor meetings. Occasional lifting of product samples or promotional materials (up to 25 lbs.). Ability to work in varied environments, including offices, warehouses, and manufacturing facilities.
