What You'll Do
Your Impact We are looking for a personable and confident professional who enjoys working with people. The ideal candidate to join our Visitor Services & Events team is self-motivated, familiar with event management, and passionate about art, nature, and culture. Experience in the wedding and event industry is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person.
The Role As an Events Lead Closer, you will work to further the mission of The Trustees by providing superior customer service during each daily visit, program, and event at deCordova Sculpture Park & Museum. This role focuses on supporting Special Events and will be responsible for the safety and security of the site and for late-night closing of the buildings and grounds after events.
Specifically, you'll: Under the direction of the Event Manager, prepare and organize event spaces and inventory. During events, coordinate with vendors and assistants as needed, ensuring deCordova standards are in place. Act as main facilities contact during events, with knowledge of lights, tents, in-house AV, and event space infrastructure. Provide exceptional customer service when working with clients, event guests, and vendor partners. Direct Event Strike, including vendors and guests as events end, then properly secure the venue space following guidelines.
Supervisory Responsibility Supervise Events & Visitor Services staff during events, and monitor vendors and caterers. The number of staff varies with the season. Oversee the conclusion of events and ensure the property is left in ideal condition for the next day.
This is a part-time, limited term, nonexempt position working 25 hours per week reporting directly to the Visitor Services & Security Manager.
Requirements
What You'll Need Skills and Experience Associate's degree or equivalent work experience. 1+ years of experience working with events and facilitating operations. Public-facing customer service experience is preferred. Flexible schedule including nights and weekends. Some events end at 11pm; shifts may extend to 12am-1am on some weekends. Experience with AV systems is preferred. Exercise good judgment and decision-making skills, and the ability to manage time effectively and prioritize meeting deadlines. Effective and concise communication skills, both in person and in writing. Ability to respond to escalated situations calmly and think on your feet to solve problems under pressure. Excellent external and internal customer service skills. Experience working in catering or facilities management is preferred. Must be personable and enjoy working with people with patience, courtesy, and kindness. Attention to detail is imperative. Ability to work independently while following policies and directions.
Physical Requirements Standing, walking, reaching, and bending for more than 80% of the day. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Must be able to drive a golf cart.
Eligibility Criteria Current authorization to work in the United States on or before your first day of employment. A valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record as outlined in The Trustees' driving policy. A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check.
