Description We are seeking friendly, motivated, and community-minded individuals to serve as Community Ambassadors. Ambassadors represent the City of Richmond and foster strong relationships within the community. The ideal candidate possesses excellent interpersonal skills, a passion for civic engagement, and the ability to inspire and motivate others.

While in the program, Community Ambassadors will engage with residents at events, promote City services, and identify opportunities to improve how the city connects with the community. Ambassadors will also participate in workshops and trainings to strengthen both professional and personal skills while exploring potential future employment opportunities.

The hourly compensation for this position will be $22.28

Duties include but are not limited to

Represent the City of Richmond at community events and public meetings

Host or assist with community resource tables, outreach campaigns, and information sessions

Respond to inquiries from residents and connect them to available resources and programs

Participate in workforce development activities including digital literacy, career exploration, and resume or GED support

Collaborate with City departments and community partners to coordinate outreach and engagement initiatives

Collect community feedback and prepare simple reports on trends, concerns, and engagement outcomes

Support conflict resolution and promote inclusive, respectful interactions within neighborhoods

Identify partnership opportunities with local organizations and businesses to strengthen community impact

Maintain records of activities, attendance, and outreach efforts, submitting regular updates to the Manager of the Office of Neighborhood Engagement

Qualifications, Special Certifications And Licenses Minimum Training and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required

At least one year or more experience in community engagement, customer service, public relations, or related fields preferred

At least one year or more experience participating in or organizing community events desired

Reliable transportation required for attending meetings, events, and field assignments

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends, to support community engagement activities

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Ability to take initiative and work independently while contributing effectively to a team

Strong communication and listening skills, with comfort speaking to groups or individuals

Ability to engage diverse audiences and demonstrate cultural competence

Basic computer proficiency, including use of Microsoft Office and email

Organizational and time management skills for balancing multiple community commitments

Professionalism, reliability, and accountability in representing the city

Problem-solving ability and a willingness to learn and adapt

Schedule:

Flexible Monday–Friday schedule with occasional Saturday and Sunday support for community projects

Transportation:

Reliable transportation required

24-Month Community Assignment

Physical Requirements and Working Environment Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. The essential duties of this classification may require the ability to regularly finger, talk, hear, and see. The working conditions may include environmental hazards. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
