Description of Work A Community Nutrition Specialist, under the supervision of the Maternal/Child Services Supervisor, certifies participants to receive WIC benefits, provides nutritional and health risk dietary counseling, provides group and individual risk and nutritional education. An employee in this class makes referrals to the Maternal/Child Services Supervisor or other Health Department programs and community social agencies and develops care plans and completes WIC documentation in accordance with Federal, State and local guidelines and performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Possess a Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university with a major in Food and Nutrition, Home Economics, Dietetics or closely related field.
2. Possess a valid Michigan driver's license.
Physical Conditions / Work Location PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
A Community Nutrition Specialist performs generally sedentary work activity requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing twenty (20) pounds or less. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS A Community Nutrition Specialist works out of the offices of the Muskegon County Health Department and additional off-site program locations.
