
PARKS & RECREATION - Seasonal Lifeguard
Position: Seasonal Lifeguard Department: Parks & Recreation Reports To: Deputy Director of Parks & Recreation FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Pay: $8/hour Description As a lifeguard, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons at the City of Lufkin Jones Pool. Qualifications CPR/AED, First Aid certification, and lifeguard certification training preferred. (The City of Lufkin pays for certification fees) Strong swimming skills and endurance. Must be at least 16 years old. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of water safety principles, including rescue techniques, CPR, and first aid. Knowledge and adherence to pool rules and regulations. Skill in excellent verbal communication. Ability to remain calm and focused in emergency situations. Ability to test water for proper chlorine/pH levels. Ability to perform water rescues efficiently. Major Duties Monitor and supervise swimming activities to ensure a safe and secure environment for all pool guests. Enforce pool rules and regulations to promote a positive and enjoyable experience for patrons. Respond promptly to emergencies, accidents, and incidents; provide first aid and CPR as needed. Conduct regular inspections of pool facilities to identify and address potential hazards or unsafe conditions. Interact with patrons in a friendly and professional manner, addressing inquiries and providing information as needed. Collaborate with fellow lifeguards and pool staff to ensure effective communication and teamwork. Maintain accurate records of incidents, accidents, and any actions taken during shifts. Must be available to work during open swim hours, starting June 1st to August 7th, and start training May 11, 2026. Pool hours Monday - Friday 11am - 5pm Other duties as assigned.
