
Overview
Workers Compensation professional responsible for reporting, investigation, analysis, resolution/outcome, and delivery of claims information. Maintains employee injury files and serves as liaison between medical providers, injured employees, claims adjusters, and supervisors. Supports OSHA reporting requirements by determining time missed from work due to work-related injuries and illnesses. Responsibilities
Report, investigate, and analyze workers’ compensation claims; determine outcomes and deliver claims information. Maintain employee injury files, including creating and updating electronic files and scanning injury reports into personnel files. Communicate with medical providers and serve as liaison among medical providers, injured employees, claims adjusters, and employee supervisors. Determine actual time missed from work due to injuries/illnesses and provide accurate information to meet OSHA record-keeping requirements. Investigate incidents, assess viability and risk, and provide solutions to minimize exposure. Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work-related injuries, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices. Assist with development of an Injury Prevention Program (IPP) to protect workers from job hazards and manage an early Return to Work program. Safety: Manage monthly store safety meetings, coordinate topics, send communications, update safety documents to ensure compliance, and follow up with managers on pending trainings. Review Workers’ Compensation cases to ensure safety policies and procedures are followed and provide guidance as needed. Collaborate with managers to foster an environment of safety. Human Resources: Act as back-up to Human Resources responding to employee inquiries and routing to the applicable team member as needed. Act as back-up to employment verification processes. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
Working knowledge of medical terminology, body systems and/or impairments and their disabling effects; working knowledge of office procedures and files; ability to obtain facts to ensure claims information is complete and accurate; ability to balance casework loads and efficiently process claims; ability to evaluate all medical and time-loss claims information; good judgment in interpreting medical facts and applying them to determine an individual’s capacity to engage in gainful occupation; ability to read, assimilate and recall facts, figures and descriptions and search for information; effective communication skills; ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with co-workers, the general public, and other agency personnel; working knowledge of supervision and motivation of employees. Education and Experience:
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of 2 years of college with courses in medical terminology and anatomy and 1 year of experience in medical claims analysis or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
