Position Overview Join TTSTC External Investments team as a Junior Portfolio Manager / Portfolio Manager. The role performs highly complex (senior-level) asset management work involving fundamental investment research and analysis to enhance due diligence and portfolio construction efforts in coordination with approved investment policies and programs. Contributing experience across the spectrum of asset classes that the Trust Company invests in, with a demonstrated emphasis on Global Fixed Income and Absolute Return hedge fund categories. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May oversee and assign the work of analytical resources across the investment team.
Work Hours Agency standard work hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, 40 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend hours. Hours are subject to change based upon business need or division determination. This position may be eligible for a flexible/hybrid work schedule if certain conditions are met; working arrangements may change at any time as business necessitates.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in finance, accounting, mathematics, business administration, or a related field.
At least seven (7) years of full-time experience in institutional asset management, consulting, banking or other financial services analytical work (credit research, valuations, derivatives analysis, etc.).
Familiarity with allocating capital to external investment managers across public fixed income and/or hedge funds.
A team-oriented attitude and approach.
Preferred Qualifications
MBA, MSF, JD or other relevant graduate degree.
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA); Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) preferred.
Licenses / Certifications
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA); Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) are preferred.
A valid Texas (or state of residency) driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record are a condition of employment. Key Responsibilities
Support the CIO and the Head of Public Fixed Income by routinely monitoring existing strategies and conducting due diligence on prospective investment opportunities that could be recommended to assist with portfolio-level implementation.
Demonstrate an ongoing awareness of industry specific and macroeconomic business cycles and trends, while contributing to or leading bespoke research projects that support investment management decisions.
Source, screen, evaluate and perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of the asset managers, strategies, and funds used for construction of complex investment portfolios.
Prepare comprehensive memos and present recommendations to the Investment Committee on specific strategies or co-investments aligned with the CIO’s objectives.
Regularly communicate with investment managers (in-person meetings or via calls), and foster relationships in a manner that upholds the Trust Company’s brand and reputation.
Maintain and update documentation held in internal systems and databases for supporting investment recommendations, providing ad hoc written and oral analysis as requested.
Participate in internal team meetings and coordinate ongoing discussions with external consultants regarding markets and the development of strategic investment plans.
Recommend and assist with negotiation of investment management terms and conditions related to investment managers in assigned portfolio.
Serve as primary relationship contact representative to the external managers of assigned portfolios.
Lead portfolio reporting efforts, including preparing periodic portfolio reviews and creating materials for internal team meetings and/or Board presentations.
Conduct ongoing due diligence and provide day-to-day oversight of external investment managers, with specific focus given to organization/team, investment process, portfolio fit, and risk/adjusted performance.
Assist the CIO and the Head of Public Fixed Income in development of opportunistic/tactical or strategic investment themes and other related initiatives.
Prepare reports and analysis needed to recommend sizing and allocation decisions.
Initiate and coordinate communication between external managers and the custodian, consultants, administrators, service providers and the Trust Company’s internal teams in Legal, Risk and Accounting.
Read and help distribute macroeconomic, microeconomic, financial, general business, and geopolitical research and analysis used in developing an outlook.
Participate in internal and/or external training and development opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
