Business Development Director

An international CDMO is entering an exciting phase of growth and is seeking a senior Business Development Director to help build and scale its US commercial presence.
The organization specializes in advanced dosage form technologies, with particular strength in particle engineering, ASD, and spray drying. Its focus is on solving complex formulation and bioavailability challenges for pharmaceutical and consumer health clients, where conventional oral solid dose approaches are no longer sufficient.
This is a high impact role suited to a commercially driven leader who enjoys building new markets, shaping strategy, and opening doors in competitive B2B environments.
This position is responsible for identifying, engaging, and converting new business opportunities across the US through proactive outreach and strategic relationship building. The role contributes directly to pipeline growth, revenue generation, and long term market positioning.
Key responsibilities include:
Identifying and researching prospective pharmaceutical and consumer health clients
Executing outbound business development activity through virtual engagement and in person meetings
Delivering tailored commercial and technical pitches aligned to client needs and development stage
Qualifying opportunities and managing early stage engagements through the sales funnel
Collaborating with internal technical, marketing, and legal teams to support opportunity development
Maintaining accurate CRM records and reporting on pipeline activity and conversion metrics
Representing the company at relevant industry events, conferences, and networking forums
Providing structured feedback on market trends, client needs, and competitive dynamics
Background and Experience
Extensive experience in outbound business development or commercial roles within pharma services
Proven success in new client acquisition within a CDMO, CRO, or closely related environment
Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
Experience managing commercial pipelines using CRM systems
Comfortable operating with autonomy in a growth oriented environment
Willingness to travel within the US for client meetings and industry events
Exposure to advanced dosage forms, spray drying, ASD, or complex formulation development
