Job Description
The Mar Eliya Retreat Center in Oxford, Michigan seeks a dedicated and faith-filled leader to serve as both Director and Property Manager. Reporting directly to the Bishop’s Office, this full-time position will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the center’s operations, ensuring it fulfills its mission of providing a welcoming and spiritually enriching environment for individuals and groups seeking renewal and connection with God. This is a dual role that demands both strong spiritual grounding and practical management skills. It is also a role that must be seen as a ministry to God and His people.
Responsibilities (Director)
Foster a prayerful and welcoming atmosphere that reflects Catholic values.
Develop and implement programs and retreats aligned with the center’s mission.
Oversee marketing and outreach efforts to attract new users.
Cultivate relationships with clergy, parishes, and community organizations.
Manage staff and volunteers.
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and safety standards.
Prepare and manage the center’s budget.
Track and report on key performance indicators.
Represent the center at community events and fundraising initiatives.
Manage facility rentals and ensure efficient scheduling.
Supervise housekeeping and maintenance staff.
Responsibilities (Property Manager)
Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of all buildings and grounds.
Develop and implement preventative maintenance plans.
Manage capital improvement projects.
Ensure compliance with all building codes and safety regulations.
Work with contractors and vendors to secure high-quality services.
Working with the Diocesan Finance Office to financially manage the retreat center.
Qualifications
Preferred minimum of 3-5 years of experience in retreat center management or a similar role.
Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business administration, theology, or a related field. The degree is preferred, not required.
Strong understanding and commitment to Catholic faith and principles.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
Budgetary and financial management experience.
Knowledge of safety and security protocols (local and state).
Knowledge of PGC (Protecting God’s Children) protocols.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
