St. James UMC is a welcoming, neighborhood church in the Buckhead/Brookhaven area. Our church mission is to help every person grow in faith that translates belief into action.
We are looking for an organist to join our vibrant music program. We have traditional worship services and a newly renovated 3‑manual Moller pipe organ.
Key Responsibilities
Play the musical portions of 2 Sunday morning services and accompany the choir.
Be versatile in traditional and contemporary options within worship services—on piano, keyboard, and organ.
Perform at special services such as Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Ash Wednesday, and Good Friday.
Attend Wednesday choral rehearsals and rehearse with other musicians or soloists.
Work under the supervision of the director of music with other staff to support smooth transitions in worship.
Select new organ compositions to meet the needs of the services.
Be available for weddings and funerals (separate compensation).
Be available for non‑worship choir events (Sunday concerts, Christmas concerts, other musical performances).
Have a basic understanding of the inner workings of the organ to assist in evaluating repairs and maintenance.
Required Skills and Experience
Strong Christian character.
Interest in non‑traditional worship music.
Proficiency on other instruments is a plus.
Bachelor's degree in music or equivalent experience.
Minimum 3 years of experience in the church and with pipe organs.

Salary Range:
$27,000 to $30,000 (Negotiable depending on qualifications)
