The Executive Director of the Whitefish Chamber of Commerce is the chief executive officer of the organization, responsible for the overall strategic, financial and operational performance of the Chamber. The ED will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, Chamber members and community to promote business growth, enhance community partnerships and advocate for policies that foster economic development. The position requires a dynamic, community‑oriented leader who can effectively manage a small staff and serve as the primary “face” of the Chamber. KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP

Develop and implement the Chamber’s strategic plan in alignment with the needs of the local business community. Foster relationships with business leaders, community organizations, local government officials and key stakeholders. Serve as the public spokesperson for the Chamber, representing its members and promoting a positive image within the community. OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT

The ED is responsible for the day‑to‑day operations of the Chamber, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality services to Chamber members and the public. Supervise and manage a team of three employees, ensuring efficient operations across membership services, events, Visitor Center operations and administration. Ensure compliance with all legal, financial and operational policies. FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT

Develop and manage the Chamber’s budget. Oversee fundraising initiatives – including membership drives, sponsorships, Chamber publications and special events – to maintain financial sustainability. Ensure financial reports are prepared accurately and presented to the Board in a timely manner. MEMBERSHIP GROWTH & RETENTION

Lead efforts to grow the Chamber’s membership by promoting the value of membership to local businesses and organizations. Maintain strong relationships with current members, addressing their needs and improving member engagement and retention. Identify opportunities for new programs, services and benefits to better serve our members. EVENT PLANNING AND EXECUTION

Oversee the planning, coordination and execution of Chamber events, including business networking opportunities, educational programs and major public events. Collaborate with local partners to maximize event success and financial viability. Manage sponsorships and partnerships to ensure event success and financial viability. GREAT NORTHWEST OKTOBERFEST

The Great Northwest Oktoberfest – the largest annual event held in Whitefish – is planned, promoted and produced by the Chamber, and is the Chamber’s #1 source of non‑dues revenue. Assisted by the Chamber’s Events Coordinator, the ED is responsible for the success of this event. This includes managing and coordinating the Festival Committee, Chamber staff, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, entertainment, etc. ADVOCACY & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Act as a liaison between the business community and local government, advocating for policies that support business growth and economic development. Collaborate with city officials and economic development entities to attract new businesses and support existing businesses. Stay informed on legislative and regulatory issues affecting the business community, and work with the Board to develop appropriate responses. BOARD & STAKEHOLDER RELATIONS

Work closely with the Board of Directors, providing regular updates on Chamber activities, financial status and strategic initiatives. Assist the Board of Directors in establishing policies and making decisions that support the long‑term vision of the Chamber. Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including elected officials, business leaders and community partners. QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required; an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience will also be considered. Completion of the U.S. Chamber’s Institute of Organizational Management is preferred but not mandatory. 3‑5 years of leadership experience with a Chamber of Commerce, nonprofit organization or business organization. Ability to successfully relate to staff, volunteers, community leaders and partner organizations. Strong financial acumen and the ability to manage a budget. Excellent oral and written communication, public speaking, presentation and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders. Knowledge of local government, economic development and issues facing businesses in rural areas. Experience in event planning, fundraising and membership growth initiatives. Savvy in dealing with organizational and community politics. Passion for community engagement and a commitment to supporting local business development.
