JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: GRANT WRITER
DEPARTMENT: RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Research and write grant proposals and follow up reports, meeting deadlines and guidelines
Cultivate relationships with potential corporate and foundation funders, maintaining regular contact and updates regarding our mission, funding status, and new developments
Develop an intimate knowledge of program operation and mission efforts to inform proposals and speaking opportunities
Maintain grant status files and calendar
Continuously research and solicit new funding sources
Strategize with senior level personnel in developing funding requests
Communicate grant opportunities, guidelines, and follow-up requirements with appropriate staff and ensure deadlines are met
Coordinate grant funder recognition including newsletters, mailings, press releases, web site in conjunction with Director of Development and President and CEO
Maintain relationship with current funding sources
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as necessary/requested
Responsible for obtaining program and grant budgets from the finance department
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Attend and participate in all appropriate meetings as scheduled
Assists in other areas of the food bank as assigned
Evening and weekend hours as requested
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be a self-starter and have creative initiative
Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and opinions, having excellent public relations and customer service skills
High level of personal and professional integrity is essential
Strong writing & research skills a must
Must be able to effectively use computers and related technologies, including both hardware and software
Detail-oriented & self-starter
A pleasant team-oriented personality and an ability to work in an unsupervised environment
Excellent telephone communication skills
Excellent time management skills

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required
Experience with non-profit organization or food bank helpful
Grant-writing experience preferred
Willingness to receive all necessary or desired training or certification, including submission to a criminal background check
Working knowledge of local social service programs
