Reporting directly to the Vice President for Strategic Communications and Government Affairs, the Director will set the social media vision, develop content plans, and personally create and publish content across platforms (Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.). The Director will also provide strategic direction for the College’s website and broader digital ecosystem, including serving as a backup content publisher as needed. The Director will supervise and collaborate closely with the Digital Associate, who manages day-to-day web updates and vendor relationships.
The ideal candidate is a sharp writer and editor, fluent in the social landscape, who brings excellent judgment, a passion for women’s education, and the ability to translate College priorities into compelling digital content. This candidate should have extensive social media experience, and a track record of building engagement and growing followers.**Job Description:****Key Responsibilities*** Lead Barnard’s social media strategy across platforms (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook), aligned with College priorities.* Plan, create, and publish original content including short-form, stories, copy, and graphics as needed.* Amplify and adapt existing content (e.g., student and faculty-facing messaging, alumnae magazine features, news stories, event coverage) for social channels.* Own and maintain the social media editorial calendar, coordinating content around major College moments (announcements, events, campaigns).* Work closely with the editorial team to ensure content reflects Barnard’s strategic messaging, values, and tone.* Ensure that content advances Barnard’s mission and centers the College’s identity as the best women’s college in the world.* Provide strategic direction for the College’s website and broader digital ecosystem, working closely with the Digital Associate and relevant vendors, and serving as a backup content publisher as needed.* Partner across the College on digital storytelling and campaigns with shared priorities.* Track and analyze performance across social platforms and priority web content using analytics tools, producing regular reporting and insights to help guide communications priorities.* Other tasks and responsibilities as necessary. The role requires occasional evening and weekend work for event coverage.**Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:*** **Education:**Bachelor’s degree required.* **Professional Experience: 6–8 years** of experience in digital communications, social media strategy, or content marketing.* A proven track record of owning, executing, and growing high-profile brand accounts.* A minimum of **2 years of direct experience** supervising staff, with a focus on mentoring and managing workflows.* Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex College priorities into punchy, platform-native copy.* Strong familiarity with **analytics suites**.* Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive communications and maintain a consistent brand voice in a high-visibility environment.This job is currently a hybrid position and may require a presence in the office up to five times a week, including for team and full staff meetings and other times as directed by the supervisor.**Salary Range:** $95,000 - $105,000 annually*The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
