Your mission
Join the Revolution in Hospitality Tech!
Director of Engineering (Platform)
Bookboost builds hospitality software that helps hotels own the guest journey end-to-end. We’re looking for a Director of Engineering to lead our backend/platform org and raise the bar on delivery, architecture, and engineering culture.
This is a hands‑on leadership role. You will still get into technical decisions and design reviews, but your main job is to make the team fast, aligned, and proud of what ships.
Tech Stack: PHP, Laravel, Postgres | TS | AWS (incl. RDS), Docker (ECS) | Elasticsearch | Snowflake, Dagster | APIs, integrations, event/data pipelines | Agentic workflows, LLMs + skills
What you’ll do
Own execution and engineering outcomes for our backend and platform systems.
Build a high‑functioning team: hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance, and career growth.
Set technical direction with strong, pragmatic architecture.
Ensure our public APIs (core to our Customer Data Platform) are reliable, secure, and easy to build on.
Drive scalable integrations with third‑party systems on top of Bookboost’s CDP infrastructure.
Establish strong engineering practices: design reviews and technical decision making
observability, on‑call and incident response
quality, testing, and release discipline
sane, consistent patterns across services
Partner tightly with Product and Design to shape work, set boundaries, and deliver meaningful outcomes.
Keep delivery predictable without turning the team into a process machine.
Your profile What success looks like (first 90 days)
You have iterated and own the engineering vision
You understand the current architecture, the biggest risks, and what needs to be simplified.
You have a clear plan for delivery cadence, ownership boundaries, and how decisions get made.
People feel supported, challenged, and unblocked.
Experience we’re looking for
8+ years in backend engineering, with meaningful time leading engineering teams.
Strong PHP skills and deep Laravel experience (PHP 8.3+).
Proven track record building and operating RESTful APIs at scale.
Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and operations (AWS, RDS, ECS/Docker).
Experience with data movement patterns (batch, CDC, streaming/batch transformations, message brokers).
Comfort in the messy middle: legacy constraints, incremental migrations, and pragmatic trade‑offs.
High ownership, high standards, and a bias toward shipping.
How we work We run an adaptation of the Shape Up methodology.
6‑week cycles for meaningful end‑to‑end delivery.
1‑week cooldown after each cycle for tech debt, improvements, and experiments.
Engineers are empowered to make technical decisions in close partnership with product and design.
Our AI vision We build with AI, and we expect everyone in engineering to work with AI every day. The job is shifting from writing syntax to designing systems. We want engineers to be
architects : people who define the right abstractions, shape the right interfaces, and use AI to move faster without lowering the bar on quality.
Location Remote Europe, or in one of our hubs (depending on the role setup).
Apply Send your details and a short note on:
what you built that you are most proud of
what kind of team you do your best work with
what you want to optimize for in your next role
