Job Description SCHOOL OVERVIEW
THRIVE is a school unlike any other – one of the first boarding schools in the country serving at-risk students. The mission of THRIVE is to empower students from underserved Louisiana communities and prepare them academically and personally for success in college and beyond. THRIVE aims to reach this goal through a world-class school in a boarding setting. Serving grades seven through twelve, THRIVE will provide the students and families of Louisiana with a never before-seen service – a free public boarding school. By combining the best educational methods with a 24-hour supportive environment, THRIVE seeks to provide students with a place to learn where nothing can get in the way.
Type:
Full Time (12 months)
Typical Schedule:
2:30 – 10:30pm Sunday – Thursday
Schedule may vary in summer months and on rare occasions to support school/academic initiatives
Responsibilities
Interviews and selects residential mentors
Works with the Director of Residential life to strategically place mentors in units for optimal coverage and mentor success
Ensures new mentors complete their electronic onboarding upon hire
Completes initial training of all mentors, ensuring they have a strong foundation in residential policies and procedures to begin their on-the-job training.
Continuously trains and evaluates all mentors and identifies opportunities for coaching and when corrective action is needed, thus is thereby responsible for establishing a positive working environment positioned for success
Works with the Assistant Residential Director [Day] to create and implement professional development for mentors
Conducts weekly dorm cleanliness inspections and provides necessary feedback to mentors based on scores
Supports mentors in real time with student issues
Ensures a smooth transition between after school and swing shift mentors
Coordinates with the Assistant Director of Residential Life [Day] to ensure data in the timeclock is accurate and serves as a back-up for timekeeping
Fully cross‑trained with evening residential staff in order to assume their responsibilities when needed
Set a positive example by being a role model for students in the program, as well as staff
Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with staff training and development
Knowledge or background in working with at-risk youth
At least 2 years of management experience of a staff larger than 10
Strong communication skills, verbal and written
Enthusiasm and patience for working with middle and high school age students
Willingness to work hard and with fidelity
Ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated administrative abilities
Well organized
Utilizes technology to improve upon systems and processes where possible
