Job Summary Assists with Blacksmith operations and spends part of week as Trail Guide/Wrangler.

$18.90 per hour Schedule:
Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)
Housing:
Eligible for a private room in a shared apartment; $267/month, payroll‑deducted

Responsibilities
Assist the Blacksmith I with tasks related to shoeing the mules. Build winter shoes for the mules to specifications as requested by the Blacksmith I.
Assist the Blacksmith I with providing a safe environment for shoeing the mules that need to go in the shoeing stocks.
Shoe mules when requested, under the guidance of the livery Blacksmith I or livery management.
Assist with maintaining the blacksmith shop in a clean, safe, and orderly fashion.
Adhere to all safety and risk management policies and procedures.
Wear all personal protective equipment required for the position.
Assist with maintaining the appropriate supply levels for blacksmith shop.
Overnight stays at Phantom Ranch may be required from time to time. Based on the mixed‑gender nature of the Trail crews and limited employee housing at the bottom of the Canyon, employees may be required to share room accommodations with team members of the opposite sex. Employees will have access to gender‑specific shower and restroom facilities, but will be expected to sleep in a co‑ed bunk house.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
One year minimum experience shoeing stock (manually).
Must have own tools.
Physical Requirements include:
Constantly: Sit, handle, reach, lift/carry up to 50lbs, push/pull up to 40lbs
Frequently: Stand, walk, reach, squat/kneel, bend, lift/carry up to 100lbs, push/pull up to 100lbs
Occasionally: Climb, crawl, lift/carry over 100lbs
