Location: Cambridge, MA Area Manager is responsible for facility management of 20+ buildings, 776,000 sq. ft., and an annual operational budget of 10+ million. The building portfolio includes classrooms, administrative offices, faculty departments, library collections, research centers, and loading docks. Responsibilities Provides leadership, supervision, and guidance to Building Managers and Administrative Coordinators to support the portfolio
Prepares and monitors annual building budgets (close, constant budget monitoring for all buildings/budgets and reporting to OPRP Finance)
Establishes preventative maintenance programs; oversees processes needed for maintenance, emergency repairs, safety programs, and renovations
Ability and skill set to understand building systems; requests, works with, and understands vendor quotes
Analyses, plans, schedules, and manages multiple projects and renovations, including some capital projects
Reviews computer-based HVAC, security, and fire systems; monitors safety compliance; coordinates inspections; ensures compliance with codes and regulations
Directs and oversees day-to-day activity of custodial staff, mail clerks, building trades, and contractors to ensure timely, cost-effective, and correct completion of work
Maintains building security through access control, security procedures, and locking devices
Responds to emergency situations as appropriate during both working and off-hours
Carries out programs of the Office of Physical Resources

This is an on-campus critical position. Physical Requirements
Ability to perform daily physical activity, including walking to and from various buildings, climbing multiple sets of stairs, and walking between rooms on each floor to inspect the physical condition of the building. Basic Qualifications 8+ years’ experience in the management of physical facilities, including vendor and/or staff supervision experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills Excellent communication skills; ability to assess needs, set priorities, and deal with stressful situations
Computer skills necessary, including proficiency in work order systems, daily maintenance, invoice processing, budget, and payroll management
Must enjoy working with students
Experience in the management of physical facilities in a University setting preferred
Additional Information Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per week
Compensation Range/Rate: Salary grade 58; the salary will be determined based on the position and the candidate’s relevant experience

Utility Plant Operations Supervisor, Extra Relief

Energy & Facilities (E&F) operates and manages Harvard’s energy supplies, district energy plants, and utility infrastructures; 24/7 facilities-related call and dispatch center; and a broad portfolio of services including building maintenance, landscaping, custodial, engineering, and sustainability services. Engineering & Utilities (E&U) operates and manages energy supplies and district energy facilities, a 24/7 call/dispatch center, and provides engineering and technical services. Responsibilities Directly oversee and supervise all aspects of plant operations, personnel, maintenance, safety, environmental compliance and operational performance
Ensure plant production capability, flexibility, reliability, safety and economic operation
Oversee and report all activities during assigned watch; maintain communications between the plant and other Campus Services areas
Ensure regulatory compliance of the Blackstone Steam Plant and DEF; compliance with internal policies and directives
Supervise all compliance issues (federal, state, local) and take corrective action during assigned watch
Participate in emergency management and response (planning, training, simulation, activation, real response, leadership)
Provide on-the-job training of staff in safety and environmental practices
Supervise unscheduled, emergency repairs and coordinate with outside contractors
Fill in for/assume role of the Utility Plant Maintenance Supervisor as needed
Oversee and monitor service provider/vendor performance; ensure compliance with contracts

Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Eight (8) years of plant operations/supervisory experience in industrial/campus/utility steam plant operations
Valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts Second Class Engineer’s License
Grade I or higher Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator’s license
EPA CFC technician certification (universal) within 6 months of hire
Valid MA State driver’s license and driving history meeting Harvard, Campus Services standards
Additional Qualifications:
Supervision of steam and electricity production facilities and related regulatory and environmental requirements
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and supervisory skills
Experience in customer-oriented settings; effective communication in writing and verbally
Technology Skills Required:
Proficiency in word-processing, email, databases, spreadsheets; experience with asset/work management systems (Maximo)
Driver designation: Massachusetts driver’s license required
Special Requirements:
Rotating shifts; potential overtime and emergency coverage; operation of forklift or lifting devices
