We are seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Senior Director of Tax to lead enterprise tax strategy and operations within a complex, multi‑state organization. This is a high‑visibility leadership role responsible for strengthening tax operations, enhancing data and analytics capabilities, and partnering cross‑functionally to optimize after‑tax performance and shareholder value.
This role offers the opportunity to influence business strategy, lead digital transformation initiatives, and mentor a high‑performing tax team—all within a dynamic, publicly traded environment. It's ideal for a tax leader who wants to move beyond compliance and play a strategic role in shaping business outcomes.
Responsibilities Enterprise Tax Strategy & Optimization
Lead development and execution of tax strategies that optimize cash flow and shareholder value across federal, state, and multi‑jurisdictional environments.
Provide strategic consultation to senior leaders and field operators on tax implications of new initiatives, restructurings, and growth strategies.
Translate complex tax drivers into clear, actionable insights to help business leaders understand after‑tax results and planning opportunities.
Identify emerging tax risks and planning opportunities across the enterprise.
SEC Reporting & Technical Excellence
Oversee preparation and review of quarterly and annual tax provisions.
Ensure accurate income tax reporting in SEC filings.
Lead integrity of tax‑related internal controls, including Sarbanes‑Oxley compliance.
Oversee tax accounting for executive compensation programs.
Monitor federal, state, and international tax law developments and assess business impact.
Multi‑State & Operational Tax Leadership
Lead enterprise response to IRS and state tax examinations.
Oversee audits, manage timelines, and coordinate internal and external stakeholders.
Provide leadership across income tax, sales & use tax, property tax, business licenses, payroll tax, and escheat matters.
Support M&A due diligence and post‑acquisition integration.
Partner with the Director, Sales & Use Tax on cross‑functional compliance initiatives.
Digital Transformation & Process Improvement
Drive modernization of tax processes, systems implementation, and data optimization.
Enhance analytics capabilities to provide real‑time tax insights to the business.
Partner with Finance, IT, and operations to strengthen reporting automation and controls.
Manage and optimize relationships with external advisors and service providers.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
Strong multi‑state income tax experience within consolidated groups
Familiarity with LLC structures, payroll tax, and non‑income tax matters
Experience managing IRS and state audits
Demonstrated leadership experience mentoring and developing teams
Strong technical research and analytical capabilities
Experience with digital transformation or system enhancements
Ability to influence senior leadership and partner across a matrixed organization
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to navigate ambiguity and respond to complex issues in a fast‑paced environment
