Senior UX/UI Designer - Design System Lead (contract position)

only for a particular project, not a full time inhouse position .
As this is a contract-based cooperation, you will receive a salary based only on the number of worked hours. And
a social package
(sick leaves, days off, vacation, necessary equipment provision, etc)
is not covered by Selecto .
Candidate's location preferences:
Preference for candidates working within or close to Madrid time zone (CET/CEST)
Ability to travel to Madrid when required
Role We are looking for a senior-level designer who can fully own and lead the design system direction, governance, and evolution. This is not just a contributor role - it requires a strong ownership mindset, leadership capabilities, and the ability to drive alignment across stakeholders and teams.
You will be responsible for establishing structure, driving consistency, gathering stakeholder needs, and leading the long-term evolution of the design system.
Key Responsibilities
Define and lead the Design System vision and roadmap
Establish foundations (tokens, typography, grid, color, accessibility)
Ensure consistency across Web, Mobile, and TV platforms
Create governance, contribution, and release processes
Partner closely with Engineering and Product
Drive stakeholder alignment and adoption
Lead documentation and long-term system evolution
Requirements
7+ years in Product / UX / UI Design
3+ years working with or leading a Design System
Experience in large-scale, multi-platform products
Strong systems thinking and component architecture expertise
Advanced Figma skills (libraries, variables, plugins, AI tools)
Solid understanding of frontend implementation
Strong leadership and stakeholder communication skills
Nice to Have
Experience in media, broadcasting, or sports platforms
Experience building or scaling a Design System from scratch
