The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
Contract Position Title Catholic Director of Music/Accompanist
Scope of Responsibilities Provides musical support for all weekend, Holy Day, and Vigil liturgical celebrations of the Goodfellow Air Force Base Catholic community. The director consults and coordinates with the Catholic Ministry Coordinator and the Catholic Chaplain, or Auxiliary Priest in his absence, who in turn monitors the director’s work through the Contracting Officer.
Qualifications and Requirements
3.1
Be proficient in sight-reading music and be capable of playing a variety of liturgical and Catholic folk songs. They should possess knowledge and experience in Catholic musical traditions, including liturgical, traditional, and contemporary styles of worship and praise. Additionally, the candidate must be able to play and sight-read music in collaboration with other musicians, such as those playing guitar, drums, trumpet, and other instruments. It is preferred that the candidate have a college degree in music or completed college-level music courses.
3.2
Have at least six months of experience in a Catholic parish setting as a choir director, cantor and accompanist.
3.3
Be proficient in sight-reading, voice, and must be proficient in playing organ, piano and experienced with Catholic liturgical music.
3.4
Be proficient at interpretation of vocal and instrumental scores to include both traditional and contemporary Catholic music.
3.5
Be knowledgeable of the Roman Catholic Mass, Liturgies, and the role of music in worship and the liturgical seasons.
3.6
Possess the skills to synchronize music with choir and/or congregation.
3.7
Provide letters of recommendation from two Roman Catholic pastors or priests testifying to the candidate's performance and moral character.
General Responsibilities
4.1
Consults with the Catholic Chaplain or Auxiliary Priest to coordinate, plan, and lead the performance of all music supporting the weekend worship and Holy Day celebration opportunities of the Goodfellow Air Force Base Catholic community.
4.2
Functions as First Cantor, leading the singing of the Goodfellow Catholic community at all weekend liturgical celebrations.
4.3
Conducts, recruits, organizes, trains, and leads the choir through a minimum of one weekly rehearsal per week along with scheduled liturgical celebrations.
4.4
The Director will incorporate psalms, new songs, and hymns into the music program when requested by the Catholic Chaplain or Auxiliary Priest.
4.5
Consults with the Catholic Chaplain or Auxiliary Priest for all questions concerning the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy.
4.6
Complies with all Federal, State, Local Laws, Air Force Instructions, and Chapel Operating Instructions that apply to this position, to include funds requests supporting the Catholic music program.
4.7
If awarded the contract, the Director must submit an application for a background check to the Chapel NCOIC according to Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI1402.5), Criminal History Background Checks.
4.8
In coordination with the Catholic Coordinator, ensures all volunteers working with youth below 18 years of age receive a background check as described in DoDI 1402.5.
4.9
Accountable for paying any Social Security payments, Federal or Local Income Taxes, and State Unemployment Insurance premiums for themselves, as well as any individual employed or subcontracted by them to provide services under this contract.
4.10
The Director will personally perform the services described above or coordinate performance by a substitute of equal or higher qualifications who has been approved as suitable by the Wing Chaplain. Submit the names and qualifications of proposed subdirectors to the Catholic Ministry Coordinator at least 14 days prior to the proposed absence. Subdirectors must meet the requirements for the position as outlined in this Statement of Work (SOW). Director is responsible for payment of substitute.
Specific Responsibilities
5.1
Provide Catholic Chaplain a written liturgical plan by season (Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter and Ordinary time) including Holy days and special celebrations.
5.2
Develop and present budget for the music program for the fiscal year.
5.3
Select music and begin rehearsals four weeks in advance.
5.4
Direct the choir and musician, providing choral responses, anthems and special music to enhance liturgical celebrations.
5.5
Continually recruit new choir members.
5.6
Maintain harmonious relationships with choir members and chapel staff.
5.7
Perform all cantorial responsibilities, leading the choir and community in song at all liturgical celebrations.
5.8
Communicate weekly with Catholic Chaplain, or in his absence the Auxiliary Priest, weekly to discuss musical selections for upcoming Sunday or other liturgical celebration.
5.9
Attend all liturgical committee meetings.
5.10
Perform for special/emergency liturgies and services (funerals) upon request.
5.11
Arrive at the chapel 30 minutes prior to all rehearsals and performances.
5.12
Ensure all facilities and storage areas are secure and clean according to established chapel facility and security procedures.
5.13
Operate within Christian Copyright License International (CCLI) guidelines and CCLI Terms of Agreement.
5.14
The Director will not reproduce any material in violation of current copyright laws.
5.15
The Director shall ensure that the chapel facility is reserved for all rehearsals and performances as required.
5.16
The Director shall ensure that total units of work does not exceed 118 per year (52 weekly worship services, 52 weekly rehearsals, and 7 special rehearsals and 7 special performances). 1 Unit = 1 service/special performance or 1 rehearsal. Rehearsal will not exceed 2 hours and services/special performance will not exceed 1.5 hours in duration per occurrence.
5.17
All work will normally be performed at the Goodfellow AFB Chapel or one of its satellite facilities.
5.18
The director shall coordinate all support requirements with the Contract Officer or designated representative.
