Music Coordinator Job Description

Mission We at Truckee Lutheran Presbyterian Church (TLPC) believe that music is a fundamental, transformative element of worship. For many, music is the medium by which they encounter the transforming Word of God. We hope to use music to help congregants prepare hearts for spiritual reflection, express praise and gratitude, and foster connection with God.
Job Summary The Music Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to bring soul-engaging, life-transforming music to the worship service. Working alongside the pastor, the Music Coordinator will be a key leader in the worship service.
Responsibilities The Music Director will:
select music, in consultation with the pastor, for Sunday worship;
recruit volunteer musicians (instrumentalists, singers) for the worship service;
prepare and distribute sheet music for all involved;
lead a weekly rehearsal with the other musicians;
serve as a worship leader during the service; and
help plan for holidays and special music events.
Qualifications and Experience Required Skills The Music Director has the skills to:
play the piano or another instrument as the lead accompanist;
lead worship music by being a strong primary or secondary melodic voice, and engage the congregation in singing;
make simple arrangements of songs and transpose them into a different key to make the songs more accessible to the congregation;
conduct a rehearsal with other musicians;
use music notation software; and
communicate effectively with the pastor, guest musicians and church volunteers to plan worship services.
Other Qualifications The Music Director
is spiritually open and can convey his/her spirituality through leadership and musicianship;
is willing to become familiar with both traditional and modern Christian music and is adaptable to play a variety of genres;
has experience playing with a band or a group of musicians that impart musicality, adaptability, and creativity; and
has good organizational skills and holds high expectations of him/herself.
Compensation: $200-$250 for each worship service depending on qualifications and experience.
