Director - U.S. Employment Law Attorney Introduction to the Team Our Corporate Functions are made up of teams that support Expedia Group, including Employee Communications, Finance, Traveler and Partner Service Platform, Legal, People Team, Inclusion and Diversity, and Global Social Impact and Sustainability.
The Legal & Government Affairs team serves as a trusted advisor to Expedia Group, providing strategic legal counsel that enables business growth while managing risk. As an employment law expert, you will play a critical role in supporting our people‑focused mission by advising on complex workforce matters, compliance strategies, and employment‑related business initiatives across one of the world’s leading travel technology companies.
In this role, you will:
Lead employment law support for a regional legal function and/or one or more discrete business functions within a major business unit
Advise key stakeholders on how to successfully navigate legal considerations applicable to critical business needs and organizational changes
Develop and implement compliance strategies for employment law matters, providing consultative support on regulatory requirements to business leaders
Utilize deep expertise and contextual awareness to explore complex legal and business issues with stakeholders and provide trusted counsel
Demonstrate good judgment in balancing legal and commercial interests to recommend solutions that achieve business objectives
Possess subject‑matter expertise in contracting for all types of employment relationships and business arrangements
Lead negotiations that create win‑win solutions and maximum value for all parties
Influence effectively across disparate groups and organizational leaders to accomplish functional and organizational goals
Coordinate activities across teams, demonstrating organizational leadership potential and mentoring team members
Identify gaps in existing processes and controls to mitigate risk and drive improvements in compliance infrastructure
Experience and Qualifications Required:
8–12 years of employment law experience
JD degree (or equivalent) or equivalent related professional experience
Admission to a relevant bar (or equivalent license status) and ability to practice as in‑house counsel in Washington
Demonstrated expertise in employment law and regulatory requirements
Proven ability to advise senior business leaders on complex, high‑stakes legal matters
Strong negotiation and problem‑solving skills with ability to balance legal risk and business objectives
Preferred:
In‑house counsel experience in a technology or multi‑national company
Experience leading regional legal functions or supporting multiple business units
Track record of developing compliance strategies and managing employment‑related business transformations
Experience coordinating cross‑functional teams and mentoring legal professionals
The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $237,000.00 to $331,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $379,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
