A.
Ensure that NCMPA1 meets its hourly demands using NCMPA1 generation resources and/or short-term purchases of market energy, capacity, and fuel.
B.
Develop and implement power, gas, and oil purchase and sales transaction strategies for NCMPA1 to maximize benefits and minimize costs and risk while taking into consideration reliability, counterparty exposure, transmission costs, and ancillary service costs.
C.
Duties to support the above responsibilities include:
Monitor market conditions and rebalance portfolio positions as needed.
Schedule and tag power and gas transactions.
Ensure that power transactions have appropriate transmission arrangements and network resource designation by Duke.
Operate within contractual limits and risk management policies.
Record transaction data.
Manage broker and contractual relationships.
Make OASIS reservations.
Collaboratively analyze portfolio optimization performance to improve future decisions.
Coordinate operations activities with the short-term (hourly) contractor by preparing and sending daily setup packets.
D.
Support power supply budget planning and reporting processes.
E.
Maintain professional relationships with power and fuel market counterparties, while identifying and pursuing new relationships to expand NCMPA1’s market reach.
F.
Coordinate the use of Generators, Distributed Generation, and Demand Side Management assets with NCMPA1 Operations team.
G.
Support Operations team by monitoring real-time energy management system data and assisting with telemetry, billing, and metering issues.
H.
Represent the interests of the Agencies and ElectriCities by participating in and interacting with various local, regional and national organizations that affect the energy markets and the ability to optimize portfolio value.
I.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, engineering, or data analytics plus 2 years of power marketing or other work involving similar customer interaction combined with complex analysis and decision-making; or 5 years of combined experience in power marketing and electric utility operations.
Excellent communication, teamwork and negotiation skills.
Familiarity with trading practices and counterparties within the SERC and PJM regions is highly desirable.
Knowledge and experience with FERC, NERC, NAESB, SERC, SEEM, and PJM operating standards and/or business practices and their development is a plus. Familiarity with ICE, OASIS, PJM Data Miner, intermediate to advanced Excel functions, Tableau, PowerBI, or other reporting and analytic software is preferred.
