Description The Bulwark isn’t just a business, it’s a mission. We're a fast-growing media company founded to provide analysis and reporting in defense of liberal democracy. Our podcasts, newsletters, and videos cut through the noise to deliver sharp, independent analysis.

Inside The Bulwark, we live by a few simple rules: candor over spin, collaboration over ego, and a commitment to making each other better. We’re a nimble, fast-moving team that takes our work seriously—but not ourselves.

We’re looking for a

Lead Producer

to join our team and take creative ownership of two of our flagship programs.

About the Role This role will serve as the showrunner for “The Next Level” podcast and its sister subscriber offering, “The Secret Podcast.” It’s a high-ownership position at the center of some of our most influential and personality-driven content. You’ll shape the editorial direction, pacing, and production of these shows in close partnership with our hosts, editorial and programming leadership, and social team. You’ll also play a key role in expanding their reach and ambition, deepening the relationship with viewers, listeners, and subscribers while continuously experimenting with format, presentation, and platform growth.

What You’ll Do

Lead scheduling, workflow, and show planning for “The Next Level” and “The Secret Podcast,” including show prep, scripting, and coordination with hosts and internal teams.

Pitch and shape show topics, identify key clips, stills, and other production elements, and help structure episodes for clarity, pace, and impact.

Conduct real-time and post-production fact-checking, and exercise strong editorial judgment and decision-making for final cuts.

Write compelling show copy, show titles, and thumbnail text, with the ability to step in on thumbnail production as needed.

Partner with the social team to identify and develop short-form clips and expand the shows’ presence and personality across social networks.

Shape and continuously evolve the presentation of the shows across platforms—working with editors to refine graphics, thumbnails, and motion elements and elevate the overall audience experience.

Develop and execute show promotion strategies in partnership with editorial, programming, and social teams to grow audience reach and engagement.

Monitor breaking and developing news stories, flag opportunities to pivot to live or special programming, and manage our livestream platform when needed.

Drive creative experimentation, testing new formats, platform approaches, and presentation styles to keep the shows fresh and ambitious.

What You Bring

5+ years of experience in digital show production with demonstrated experience serving in a lead or showrunner capacity and the ability to own end-to-end production.

Deep understanding of the video, social, and audio platform ecosystems.

Familiarity with Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and Illustrator, along with experience or interest in best practices for YouTube optimization, including thumbnail production.

A deep interest in politics, current events, and media, and passion for The Bulwark’s mission and work.

Sharp editorial judgment and confidence making high‑stakes decisions under deadline.

Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage complex workflows and competing priorities.

Experience or interest in live event production.

Experience managing or mentoring producers, editors, or freelancers is a plus.

What We Offer We want people at The Bulwark to thrive and provide:

Full employer-sponsored health plans

401(k) plan with employer match

Generous vacation and paid time off

Commuter benefits and Employee Assistance Program

This role is based in Washington, DC, where our team works together in person four to five days a week. We’re mission-driven, collaborative, and direct—and we value people who bring ideas and energy to the table.

Interested? We’d love to hear from you. Submit your resume and a brief cover note about why this role sparks your interest and how you'd contribute to our mission. Applications received by February 28 will receive priority consideration.
