Job Description The Assistant Director of Music Ministry/Pianist can be filled either with one full time position or two part time positions. This job description plays a pivotal role in the musical life of the church. He/she provides piano accompaniment for scheduled worship services and other activities in support of the music ministry of the church for the ultimate goal of glorifying God through worship. The Assistant Director of Music Ministry also serves as the leader of the Music Academy, serving and connecting with others in our community by helping children and other interested learners with the beauty of music and sharing how music can lead people into a living relationship with God. This individual is a strong team player, working under the direction of the Director of Music Ministry. He/she must be a committed follower of Jesus Christ while being a positive and inspirational leader.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

Strong Christian commitment and belief in PWUMC's mission, methods, and principles.

Experienced in church worship, and familiarity with the United Methodist Hymnal.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Flexibility to play in blended style worship services (incorporating both traditional and modern music).

Knowledge of the piano and oversight for care of church musical equipment.

Knowledge of basic music theory and ability to perform simple transpositions or reharmonizations.

Ability to sight read music as well as chord charts and lead sheets.

Willingness to rehearse sufficiently to maintain a high quality of music.

Sensitivity and the ability to interact with a variety of people.

Ability to take direction and work as a team member.

Love for children and youth and appreciation for their worth as individuals.

Demonstrate an agreeable, cooperative, and positive attitude to facilitate working cooperatively with all ministries of the church.

Ability to establish and maintain appropriate priorities and meet established deadlines.

Ability to exercise initiative and, as needed, to be creative and innovative.

High energy, spiritual maturity, and leadership skills.
