Rose Memorial Library (RML) is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and forward-thinking Library Director to lead the library into its next chapter. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional who values teamwork, community engagement, and innovation, and who is eager to build on the library’s strong foundation while helping modernize its services and spaces.
The Library Director reports directly to the Rose Memorial Library Association Board of Trustees and works closely with an established, highly engaged staff and board who share a strong, respectful, and productive working relationship.
Salary Range: $100,000–$125,000 annually
About the Role The Library Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and operation of Rose Memorial Library. The Director will guide strategic planning, oversee daily operations, manage staff and finances, and serve as the public face and chief advocate for the library within the community.
While prior experience as a Library Director is not required, the successful candidate will bring strong leadership skills, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach. Experience with major renovations or new construction projects is highly desirable, as the library looks toward future improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary representative and spokesperson for Rose Memorial Library within the community
Foster positive relationships with community partners, local government, agencies, and organizations
Work collaboratively with the Board of Trustees as thought partners, maintaining regular and transparent communication
Lead strategic planning efforts and implement board-approved goals and priorities
Develop and manage the library budget in collaboration with the Director of Operations, along with the Board of Trustees
Seek and secure diverse funding sources, including grants, philanthropic support, and public funding
Oversee all library operations, programs, and services along with the Director of Operations
Supervise, mentor, and support library staff while fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture
Evaluate community needs and develop new programs and services accordingly
Promote innovation, modernization, and thoughtful adoption of new technologies
Recommend and help guide renovations, updates, or capital improvement projects
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program (required)
Experience in library administration and staff management
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with boards, staff, elected officials, and diverse community members
Knowledge of current and emerging library technologies and trendsExperience managing large or complex projects
Experience with major renovations or new construction projects preferred, but not required
Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or securing public funding preferred
