### **What We Can Achieve Together:**The Northeast Division Climate and Energy Director (External Affairs Advisor II) will develop, lead, and implement Northeast Division Climate and Energy Program strategies and goals motivating and engaging TNC colleagues and outside stakeholders in governments, multilateral agencies, NGO and community partners, and/or the corporate sector to develop an integrated approach to energy and climate policy and program delivery.
This position will work with and through a dispersed team of colleagues across the ten business unites of the Northeast Division (WV, PA/DE, MD/DC, NJ, RI, CT, MA, VT, NH and ME) to create cross-border and integrated strategies and programming to support achievement of TNC's ambitious 2030 Climate Mitigation outcomes. Beyond the Northeast Division leadership the Director will work in close collaboration with other TNC programs including the NY Division, Appalachians Program, and our peers and teams across North America working to further common goals and balance clean energy advancement with biodiversity conservation. The ideal candidate will be able to understand and work across the varying socio-economic and political complexity of a geographic region that represents a complex matrix of energy production, consumption, and delivery that overlaps with some of the highest densities of population and biodiversity occurrences in America. They will strive to work with multiple actors and stakeholders to advance clean energy development including Independent System Operators, state governments, and utilities, and strive to do so as to help ensure equitable outcomes. As needed, this position will engage and manage consultants with expertise needed to carry out responsibilities and may be asked to engage with their counterparts across the Conservancy on national or global level cooperative work.### **We’re Looking for You:**The External Affairs Advisor II furthers the work of The Nature Conservancy and its conservation partners through direct interaction with governments, multilateral agencies, and/or businesses focusing on policy, practice, and funding initiatives that provide conservation opportunities and/or impact our conservation programs. They identify conservation policy and funding opportunities, evaluate the potential for strategic partnerships, and develop and implement strategies to influence corporate practice, public policy, and public funding for conservation at a large scale, national and/or global level. They liaise with counterparts within the organization to provide and extract useful lessons and experience and to coordinate on joint policy/practice approaches.**RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE*** Supervises administrative and/or professional staff with responsibility for performance management, training and development.* Financial responsibility may include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development, and meeting fundraising targets.* Responsible for meeting departmental strategic goals and objectives.* Communicates professionally with a wide variety of people from different cultures.* Prepares and presents project proposals and negotiates with federal, bilateral and multilateral agencies and/or the business and corporate sector, to achieve program goals.* Accountable to persuasively convey the mission of The Nature Conservancy to varying groups including key legislators, government officials and others who are critical to the Conservancy’s overall public funding strategies.* Works in partnership with other organizations in a collaborative and consultative or advisory capacity.* Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.* Ensures that the program complies with federal lobbying laws and regulations.* Develops and implements multi-year fundraising strategies, and goals.* Effectively directs and or participates in complex negotiations.* Develops constructive and effective working relationships inside and outside the Conservancy.### **What You’ll Bring:*** Bachelor’s degree in political science, environmental policy, business or related field and 6 years of senior management level experience in government relations, corporate sector, or equivalent combination of education/experience with experience.* Supervisory experience .* Federal agency or congressional staff experience or equivalent experience for positions with a global focus (if required).* Experience in a corporate environment with business development, banking, corporate social responsibility, or corporate sustainability (if required).* Direct experience working with partners and government agencies.* Project management experience including coordinating the work of other professionals inside and outside an organization.* Proven experience in strategy development and implementation.* Demonstrated relationship building skills.* Experience negotiating complex high profile or sensitive agreements.* Proven written and verbal communication and presentation skills.### **Desired Qualifications:*** 6 year of experience developing state, federal and/or local energy and/or climate policies or regulation.
Focus on renewable energy development a plus.* Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience appreciated.* Master’s degree appreciated* Experience presenting to and communicating with management-level individuals and boards of trustees within NGOs and the corporate sector.* Excellent team player with experience working in multi-disciplinary groups, using influence and interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships with governments, corporations, partners, donors, volunteers, and all levels of staff.* Experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives.* Experience working in international contexts a plus.* Federal agency or congressional staff experience or equivalent experience in positions with a global focus* Experience in a corporate environment with business development, banking, corporate social responsibility, or corporate sustainability (if required).### **Salary Information:**The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $100,000-$140,000. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges.
