Performance Responsibilities
Direct an in-school, extracurricular program designed to foster support for the athletic teams and school spirit among non-participants.
Develop and execute an athletic program within the appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
Coordinate an athletic program in collaboration with principals and coaches to ascertain programmatic needs on an annual basis, as well as prior to each season to insure consistency of program.
Organize and administer the overall athletic program - both intramural and interscholastic.
Assume responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.
Supervise all facets of events in coordination with building administration.
Foster good school-to-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program, including notifications of game cancellations and other pertinent information to all stakeholders.
Keep records of the results of all school athletic contests and maintain a record file of all award winners, stating the date and type of award, including athletic scholarships.
Provide a channel through which students and the community may express their concerns about the athletic program.
Mediate the resolution of problems, issues, and concerns that may arise between coaches, students, parents, and/or spectators.
Initiate in the recruitment of and provide assistance in the selection of athletic coaches for the athletic program.
Advise and ensure that all students and coaches conform to IHSAA and SHCSC policies and regulations and State/Federal laws.
Attend sectional, conference and district IHSAA meetings.
Complete an evaluation form and hold a conference with all coaches within three weeks after the conclusion of their sport season.
Provide in-service of coaching staff as needed.
Administer/supervise the physical education waiver program.
Verify and maintain records of each athlete’s eligibility according to established physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport.
Administer the student insurance program covering school athletes and assume responsibility for all processing of reports and claims.
Plan and supervise an annual and/or seasonal recognition program for school athletes.
Prepare and administer the athletic program budget.
Supervise all ticket sales and fund-raising events of the athletic program and assume responsibility for proper handling of funds.
Ensure officials are scheduled and contracts are issued for all high school contests.
Maintain an active file of officials under contract and pays officials following the contact.
Hire officials, team physicians and policemen as required. Assume general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
Assume responsibility for notification all students, coaches, officials, workers and community of changes in event schedule.
Arrange all field and gym practice schedules for both school and non-school use.
Maintain all internal and external facilities in collaboration with school and district personnel.
Requisition program supplies and equipment, including individual and team awards, and concession and program supplies/equipment for students and coaches.
Arrange transportation for athletic contest participants.
Arrange for the provision of meals and/or lodging for athletes and coaches when appropriate.
Assume responsibility for all facets of the concessions and vending machines for all events.
Perform data entry, including completion of forms and submission of IHSAA event entry lists.
Arrange all details of visiting teams’ needs, including lodging, meals, towels, gymnasium services and field assistance, as appropriate.
Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the principal may from time to time assign or delegate.
