About Stainless Stainless is a fast-growing tech startup building the future of APIs. Our customers include industry leaders like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Cloudflare.

We have raised over $35 million from a16z, Sequoia, and founders/C-levels from Stripe, Datadog, Segment, Linear, and more.

We are headquartered in NYC, just west of SoHo, and are a team of ~60 strong expecting to double in the next ~9 to 12 months.

About The Role You'll shape the complete developer experience at Stainless — designing the product interfaces developers use to build with our API Platform and creating the brand identity and marketing presence that brings them to us. We're looking for a product design generalist who gets excited about complex, technical products and can work across the full spectrum of design. Beyond individual contributions, you'll help establish Stainless's design culture and grow our design team.

This is an in-person role based in New York City.

What you'll do Design work

Design and integrate new products with the Stainless Platform

Refine existing functionality and lead design on greenfield projects from inception to launch

Evolve the Stainless website and marketing assets

Create a polished, cohesive design language across product and brand

Translate complex, ambiguous workflows into beautiful, intuitive interfaces

Guide your designs into production through close collaboration with engineering

Design culture & team

Drive a culture of polish and user-centricity across the company

Help develop our user research practice—conducting research and synthesizing insights into designs

Contribute to hiring and shaping the design team as we grow

Who you are Core requirements:

5+ years of design experience as a designer

Strong portfolio demonstrating work across both product and brand design

Deep understanding of how developers think, with ability to design for technical audiences

Strong collaborator who works well cross-functionally with engineers

Comfortable conducting user research and translating findings into design decisions

Able to reason about complex workflows and simplify them through design

Nice to haves:

Not afraid of frontend code—ideally able to implement many of your own designs

Comfortable building interactive prototypes (HTML/CSS/JS)

Experience designing developer-focused products

Technical understanding of APIs, codegen, or similar infrastructure concepts

You'll thrive here if you have deep respect for engineering constraints, enjoy working closely with technical teams, and want to help build something from the early stages.
