Unit: VP Enterprise Mktg and Comm MBU
Department: University Marketing
Duties & Responsibilities Virginia Commonwealth University’s Enterprise Marketing and Communications (EMC) team is seeking an experienced and collaborative account manager to serve as a liaison between internal university partners and the centralized marketing division. Reporting to the director, strategic account management and media, the account manager will oversee integrated marketing projects from intake through execution, ensuring alignment with VCU’s brand, strategic priorities, timelines and budgets.
This role is ideal for a highly organized communicator who thrives in a complex, fast-paced environment and is passionate about supporting a mission-driven institution through effective marketing and storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
Partner Management
Build quality, long-term relationships with university partners
Proactive and responsive communication
Advise the partner on relevant strategies, creative approach and tactics in partnership with the EMC leadership team
Oversee the annual marketing plan for the partner, incorporating annual key dates, events and milestones
Strategy
Ensure projects are aligned with enterprise goals and brand strategy
Research key marketing trends, audience insights and communications platforms that inform the creative, media and tactical strategy
Write briefs that define goals and specifications for effective creative and tactical execution
Project and Budget Management
Oversee stakeholder feedback ensuring strategic consistency and timely delivery
Work with project manager and EMC stakeholders to determine necessary resources, fees, vendor costs and schedules to meet or exceed partner expectations
Track and manage budget
Other duties as assigned
Work Expectations This is a hybrid role.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
2-3 years in account management in higher education, healthcare or other large, complex organization
Excellent customer service skills with strong ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
Solid working knowledge of digital/social media platforms
Familiarity with media strategy and buying, including broadcast media
Knowledge of print and production processes
Ability to juggle multiple tasks, deadlines and budgets
Experience translating stakeholder needs into actionable and prioritized plans that align with organizational priorities and brand
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, communications or equivalent work experience
Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000
