Tilcon Connecticut is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Grading Foreperson to lead roadway grading and reclaiming operations in support of asphalt paving projects throughout Connecticut. This leadership role is responsible for directing field crews, coordinating daily operations, and ensuring all grading activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in strict accordance with project specifications.

Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Operations
Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the roadway grading crew.
Establish work plans to meet production goals and maintain project schedules.
Provide hands‑on leadership and assist crew members as necessary to maintain workflow.
Communicate daily with the Superintendent regarding production, manpower, equipment needs, and project challenges.
Technical Execution & Quality Control
Interpret and implement project plans, drawings, specifications, and survey data.
Set, verify, and maintain accurate grades, slopes, and elevations.
Ensure grading and reclaiming work meets all contract requirements and quality standards in preparation for paving.
Monitor jobsite productivity and proactively address performance issues.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce company safety policies and applicable OSHA and DOT regulations.
Conduct safety briefings and review weekly safety updates with crews.
Maintain compliant work zones, including proper traffic control setups.
Complete work zone inspections and ensure adherence to permits and regulatory requirements.
Promote a proactive safety culture across all operations.
Documentation & Reporting
Accurately complete and submit required electronic documentation, including:
Daily time sheets and productivity reports
Work zone checklists
Safety observations and reports
Project progress notes
Maintain organized project records, including schedules and daily logs.
Stakeholder Coordination
Collaborate professionally with state, municipal, and private project representatives.
Represent the company with professionalism when interacting with inspectors, clients, and the public.
Qualifications To perform this role successfully, candidates must demonstrate the ability to lead crews effectively while maintaining high standards of safety and workmanship.
Proven experience in roadway grading, site grading, or earthwork operations.
Strong working knowledge of grading techniques, specifications, and production requirements.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and grade stakes.
Demonstrated leadership and decision‑making ability in field environments.
Experience communicating daily with Superintendents and project stakeholders.
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle within the assigned territory.
Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions.
Strong commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
Education & Certifications
Roadway and/or site grading experience required.
OSHA 10 Certification required.
Competent Person Training preferred.
Traffic Control Supervisor certification preferred.
Additional construction industry experience will be considered.
Knowledge & Skills
Basic to intermediate computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and electronic reporting systems.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime as required.
Willingness to travel within Tilcon Connecticut’s operational area.
Professional demeanor with co‑workers, supervisors, clients, and the public.
Self‑motivated with a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.
Physical Requirements
Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, reach, and operate equipment.
Ability to perform strenuous physical activity for extended periods.

Frequently: 10–50 lbs
Occasionally: 50–100 lbs
Must possess adequate vision (close, distance, peripheral, depth perception) to safely operate equipment and monitor work activities.
Regular exposure to outdoor construction environments, including hot, cold, wet, and humid conditions.
Frequent exposure to moving mechanical equipment and elevated noise levels.
Work Environment
Exposure to varying weather conditions and seasonal elements.
Work near heavy equipment and moving traffic.
Night and weekend operations as project schedules require.
High noise levels and physically active conditions.
