This includes our community markets, neighborhood activations, and a brick and mortar manifestation of our signature outdoor marketplace, reflecting the needs and wants of neighbors and tourists alike.

Sunset Mercantile Emporium is a new brick‑and‑mortar and a local collective for local merchants and makers, specializing in hand‑crafted goods and art, vintage collectibles, and provisions for pets and people.

Our mission is to offer a family friendly public space for the community to enjoy, providing accessibility to neighborhoods with high quality customer service while connecting small businesses, artists and resources to our local community in the Inner Sunset neighborhood and the larger Sunset district.

Job Overview The Marketing Manager grows our audience through digital and in‑person marketing and communications of Sunset Mercantile events. This position ensures the look of marketing materials and content are in line with the SM brand, community, and audience.

The Marketing Manager creates an in depth marketing plan for each event/project from inception to the day of to maximize its visibility, while finding creative opportunities to help leverage the event and working with cross functional departments.

The Marketing Manager works closely with the Social Media Team, Sponsorship Lead, and Head of Programming.

This is a non‑exempt position starting at $28/hour. Other benefits include Healthcare stipend for full‑time employees (30+ hours/wk), 401(k) (non‑company matching), 2 paid floating holidays.

The first ninety (90) days of your employment is considered an introductory period. During this period, we will have the opportunity to monitor the quality and value of your performance and make any necessary adjustments in your job description of responsibilities. Completion of this introductory period does not imply guaranteed or continued employment.

Essential Functions Digital Media

Works with Social Media Team to maintain social accounts such as Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, Twitter, Tik‑Tok

Collaborate with the social media team to create a social media calendar

Works with Social Media Manager and Sponsorships Project Manager to oversee strategy and content

Ensures digital media content is in line with brand guidelines

Communications

Help develop a robust monthly newsletter plan alongside the Communication Manager.

Provide guidance for content and creative ideas. Work with Inner Sunset Event Manager and OSFMM manager and other community members to create a well rounded newsletter.

Identify other campaigns and strategies for outreach to reach the community through our email list

Create and implement strategies for newsletter growth

Works with communications manager to create official statements, descriptions, boiler language and other written materials

Promotion Print Materials

Coordinate with team members and partners in the creation of posters and flyers for events on a yearly timeline

Identifies other prints along with any other graphic materials required for marketing and works with design team to produce them, ensuring the branding aligns

Work with Sponsorships Project Manager to ensure timely allocation of sponsor assets on all marketing materials

Reviews all files created by the design team as needed before print

Coordinate distribution with Community Engagement Coordinator of materials according to marketing and outreach schedule with event coordinator. Coordinates with internal site managers to ensure prints are allocated to various sites

Help assess, identify needs and develop signage that is on‑brand with Marketing Team, and in‑line with sponsorships via Sponsorships Project Manager

Press outreach

Oversee Social Media Manager’s regular submissions to online and print publications to promote events and programs and track press contacts and submissions made

Research new media outlets to reach target audiences for respective events

Buy ad space in digital and print outlets

Track and analyze data related to marketing submissions and potential impact

Maintain relationships with existing media partners.

Website

Initial development of website once event is announced

Oversee content and provide accurate information to the website team

Provide assistance and be a point of contact with our website consultant

Ensure information on website is up to date, assign website maintenance as needed

Undertake other duties as assigned

Qualifications

3+ years experience in a marketing role or a similar field, college or university degree in a related discipline preferred

Experience leading a team and working in cross functional teams

Proficient using marketing tools to facilitate various marketing plans and campaigns

Strong project management skills, Ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time‑sensitive projects with multiple deadlines

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Self‑starter with an eye for detail, problem solving and creativity
